All New Summer 2008 Transfer Merry Go Round/Rumour Mill

Cardiff City have offered Rangers £2.5m for Kris Boyd. Walter Smith would be a fool to let him leave. He scored 25 goals in 23 starts this season and was our top scorer yet again despite being out of favour.
I agree that Smith was right to keep him on the bench last season, and that the 4-5-1 formation that almost brought us huge success does not suit Boyd. However I think the time of the 4-5-1 is over and that we have to play more attacking football this season. For that reason we must keep Boyd. I'd accept no less than £10m for him.

For all Boyd's faults he is a born goalscorer, just give him the ball anywhere near the box and you'll get results. He might or might not be a great team player but for someone who scores as frequently as he does £2.5m seems more like an insult than a proper offer.

We'll be fine. We managed without Nistelrooy. Without Cantona. Without Keane, etc....

Without doubt - it all depends how long it takes to get back the same kind of team structure (esp if Quiroz leaves)

It took a while to replace Keane, we still havent replaced RVN (although we have been unlucky with Saha)

It's just a shame. Ronaldo can go, the way he's handled this has been unprofessional to the extreme.
I genuinely think, after the move, Ronaldo will realise he's made a big mistake. We've seen it so many times in the past.

Ive given up caring to be honest - just because of how decietful Ronaldo seems to have been in the whole business

I hope you are right, however looking at RVN its likely to be anything but

Almost everything was put there for him by Rooney and Tevez, hopefully the former gets a little more selfish (though I say this every year). We spread the goals around pretty well and still have the best defence in the league. It's not going to be easy, but I have confidence in Ferguson that he'll sort it.

Agreed 100%. He certainly wasn't as good as the players you have mentioned

I'm amazed Ronaldo thinks he's going to a better club with players that suit him better than united. The whole united set up and attack suits him to.
I think he will never get near the standards at Real he has at united. I bet he becomes lazier and over time slips. 2 or 3 years from now he will be begging to go back home to united.

He's gone for the life style not for the football.

Absolutely spot on danny.

With Keane AND Nistelrooy we simply changed system. Carrick came in as an enforcer who took the ball using guile and wit as opposed to steamrolling them with tackles (a la Keane) and we rotated 4 front players (2 up top, 2 wingers) so they all get goals which replaced Nistelrooy.

Neither were player for player swaps, but beneficial system changes (which is my worry if we get Huntelaar - we'll go backwards to the days of Nistelrooy).

If Ronaldo does go to Real Madrid it should make for a quality Champions League tie next season (if it happens), with Man U v Real.

Not to mention 'el classico', Messi v Ronaldo

Who'd have thought Danny would ever have spoken so much sense;):p

There is not doubt that i will be gutted if Ronaldo moves; but it seems his ego has grown to much. I still want to see what he says back in Manchester surrounded by his teammates who are surely asking him what the hell does he think he is doing..

If he does go I want us to take £70 million (not euro's) in cash at least in a one off payment. I don't mind getting Ramos but i don't think Robinho would be a great buy. In replacing him well I don't have a clue, we obviously should and will buy a striker. But really there is no winger around except messi who can replace him. The likes of Simao and Qurasema haven't impressed me.

Manchester United will go on, we always have and we always will. Remember we are champions of Europe and of England.

I think Simao has had a better EC than CR7 tbh.But Nani will fill his boots adequately, Nani loos like the player Ronaldo was at his age.

Ronaldo has not had a great European Cup but no one can deny he is a world class player, with pace skill and finishing in abundance. Simao never seems to go past opponents and in my eyes has been poor.

Nani is a tough one, he has talent and he can cross very well. I'm not sure if he can be as good as Ronaldo but there is potential to be world class, although he needs to stop some of his antics.

Messi would be perfect (ha) we should sell Ronaldo to Barca instead...he wants to play in Spain and that would annoy Madrid somewhat.

We did eventually but it wasnt straight away (esp with departure of Keane)

I think you would admit we have been after a fit out and out striker for 2 years or more

There is only 18 months difference between them - personally think Nani is a good two or three years behind Ronaldo's developement

Good signing but really dont think Nani will ever be as consistant as Ronny

I didn't catch all of the game, but Deco seemed to do as little as he usually does tbh. The guy certainly has a reputation that exceeds the ability he consistently shows.

deco was a class player a few seasons ago, these days he's more interested in partying with his pal ronnie and they now both suck because of it.

i'm sure i'll get flamed by the usual one-eyed red brigade again but i don't care a bit - ronaldo rarely plays his A game against the best opposition and this is why i don't rate him against the true greats like zidane/cantona etc etc

those guys played big when it matters against the best, not against West Brom at home.

unless he starts to do that more consistently whether with Madrid or Utd he will never measure up as a true legend.
