Who has the best army in the world?

But you where talking about one torpedo finishing it off, thats not even going cripple aircraft carrier.

im sure a full spread of modern torps would sink a nimitz carrier fine, but it's not worth talking about as it's never gonna happen EVER :)

I bet they do have a lot of modern stuff in there too, i just don't think our navy would be able to hold up against sheer force of numbers.

Ona side note and sort of related how does the eurofighter fare against the F-22?

You guys do realise how old MOST of the american naval equipment is don't you? VERY!!

Yes they have a big navy, but it's very outdated! Things change very quickly, not much more than 50 years ago the UK was the most powerful nation on Earth. The only reason that changed was the crippling effects of winning 2 world wars!

Hezbollah have the best army, :D I remember when Israel invaded, They pushed them off, even only numbering around 10,000 total soldiers in the whole of Lebanon! And Israel invaded with a lot more!

That's just down to ignorance of guerilla troop tactics and gross underestimation of numbers involved in combat. It's hard to fight an unorganized rabble of angry towel-clad men. Everyone was surprised as all hell to see Israel take the drubbing it got.

we've now got higher then sas havent we now? can remember reading a massive article about them but i cant remember the name of the squad, there a small squad what doesn't take order's from anyone other than england

where as the sas have to take orders from the US in places like iraq/afgan

ill look it up in a bit, unless someone else decides to find it

SAS command comes directly from UK forces....

Have you been alongside one of the yank super carriers? One of them is big enough to house our entire force of fighter aircraft :D

The national guard has better numbers of transport aircraft than we have.

Worlds most elite troops??

Thats impossible to say imo. Everyone will call sas but the media have instilled in people that sas are the best. Overall they are probably not.

SAS specialise in hostage situations which they are probably best at. Canadas JTF2 elite regiment ae pretty hardcore, they hold the world record for the longest confirmed sniper kill.

French foreign legion have some damn good elite troops, as a whole the french foreign legion are pretty elite as it is. There training imo is harder than what sas have to undertake ;)

The Navy SEALS are damn good and probably better than the SBS.

Overall different elite troops are better at "different" things.

Saying SAS are best in the world is misguided imo

More like 90-100 years then.

F22 is meant to be a lot better mainly because it's stealth, but Typhoon still beats pretty much anything else in the air..

I think I read on wiki a while back a Typhoon had a simulated dogfight with 2 * F15s and beat them both. (and certainly beat a lot of other planes against the odds in testing)

Ok then I worked at an airport for next to 17 years at a base that looked after the C130's and Tristar I know the state they are in. You can drive past Marshall aerospace in cambridge right now and see how many C130's are in work. They are junk. Even the new J is useless. The pilots hate them. The tristar is maintained by gamco now outside the uk. Lyneham used to look after the c130. If we went to war now with a conflict like the falklands we no longer have the numbers in the RAF (engineers) to maintain these aircraft who are well trained. They have all be made redundant and the bases closed.

The civilians at marshalls maintaining these aircraft have no desire to go to war or work through the night for a war effort.

As I say how exactly would we get our numbers to the falklands without american help if we had to do it all over again? Wait for the A400m to come online in about another 10 years at the current rate. A400m another pile of junk. Like the C130J who in the hell thinks of using composite when your going to have to do rough landing strips.

Navy troop carriers mate. That's how they got the in the 80s Falklands conflict. Also commercial carriers (both aircraft and ships) were taken over by the Royal Navy at the time...

what? the sas don't do much hostage stuff at all they mainly do work on the ground marking targets etc.

again ... how do you know what torpedos the enemy has, your judging the enemy on our standards, which is not wise especialy considering wars and battles is usualy the driving factor for technology.

No we haven't your on about the newly formed SRR (Special recon regiment)

They have taken on the recon and intel gathering role from sas and sbs.

They arent any higher than sas at all, they are also the first british special forces to recruit women :p

I remember reading that Sweden has one of the most advanced military setups for it's comparatively small army. How true that still is I dont know.

Yep, saw one outside Portsmouth harbour years ago...

They can carry up to 90 aircraft, no where near our entire force of fighter jets!!

USS Nimitz itself is over 30 years old.

edit: it seems france now have pipped our 2nd place budget size, they don't count as all their budget is spent working out ways to retreat and not fight.....as proved throughout history (they don't even deserve to be in NATO imo)

that depends the french also count their police force as part of the army so that has to be weighed in as well.

not that it really matters were still better anyway.

*hums national anthem*
