Who has the best army in the world?

Ross Kemp is also hard as nails and hangs out in Afghanistan.

Kemp married this though...

Yep, saw one outside Portsmouth harbour years ago...

They can carry up to 90 aircraft, no where near our entire force of fighter jets!!

USS Nimitz itself is over 30 years old.

I was half joking. Do you have the figures for the number of fighter aircraft we currently have in service? By aircraft type.

I know we only have about 30 operational C130's which in comparison to the 1000+ the yanks have kinda puts in to perspective our troop moving ability. Thats without considering the larger transports they have.

The USA has the most powerful arsenal in the world with the greatest capability. It is of zero debate as it is a statement of fact. It has a technology lead in virtually all areas and relies on this technology and investment in development to keep it ahead of the rest of the world which today it most certainly does.

Who is the best army in the world is a broad question however and something you can not answer as with most things in life......it depends and it depends on many things and many circumstances. Troop volume wise China has the largest army but again this does make it the best. In terms of training and troop on troop ability there are a few I would suggest at the top table and the British are one of them and probably, together with 3 or 4 other armies the most respected fighting forces in the world.

It baffles me us the UK a small island had all the world for such a large period of time

I see us having the best army, maybe not technology wise, we are still huge on the world stage.

Russia is plowing incredible amounts of money into military, I would not be suprised if in the next 10 years they are pushing up close to the US

The Russians save everything though, if theres another world war tomorrow they can carry on fighting right the way till they are using children and world war 1 guns.

There are only 2 "blue water" navies in the world now - the US Navy and the Royal Nav(blue water navy means it has the capability to project power anywhere in the world)

Just like to correct you here; there has been for a long time been three blue water navies. You forgot to include France.

A lot of our full defensive capability lies dormant. For example there are at least 3 air fields around my area, no more than 20 miles to any of them. All of these have disused hangars and such like. In the event of a major war these could be reactivated within a very short space of time.

The good thing about being an island is that it is very very hard to attack. We have a complete coast line that we can defend. Many countries don't have this. China for instance may have a great wall but if they managed to **** a neighbouring country off enough they could walk straight in!

Our terrain is also very easy to defend. In WW2 thousands of pill boxes were setup around our country sides for example. All strategically placed to take advantage of the landscape and natural bottlenecks. Some countries don't have terrain like this. Vast spaces of desert... like say Iraq or Iran. Tanks can cruise over this at 40mph.

Then there's our military assets... The Typhoon may be out matched by an F22 (not that the two would ever be engaged in a fight) but the F22 costs about 4x more. Therefore I wonder if 4 Typhoons vs 1 F22 would result in one dead F22? :p
