• Competitor rules

Please remember that any mention of competitors, hinting at competitors or offering to provide details of competitors will result in an account suspension. The full rules can be found under the 'Terms and Rules' link in the bottom right corner of your screen. Just don't mention competitors in any way, shape or form and you'll be OK.

First "real" HD4870 benchies @ HKEPC

I simply do not like you full stop esp after posting fake pron forum links about me, you bait people and seem to get away with it.

Just stop posting - evey post makes you look less and less intelligent and informed.

Your entire argument in this thread is that "people have been saying the 4870 will beat the GTX280". Well, what exactly does that even prove? This is the internet - people will say anything and everything. There are a group of thousands that say that we are all slaves to retilian shape-shifting overlords, so does that make it true?

Either provide real evidence to back up your claims, or just give up. And to your 'just use google' comment - if you make a claim it's your responsibility of back it up with some kind of factual evidence, not the responsibility of the masses you're speaking at to go away and check it for themselves.

From what I've gathered GDDR3 running at 900MHz has the equivalent data throughput as 1800MHz without the GDDR enhancements, but GDDR5 would have the equivalent of 3600MHz. That also means GDDR5 has a fair bit of potential to get faster.

It's a bit out of date since the memory is actually in use, but here's the info from the wiki

GDDR5 (Graphics Double Data Rate, version 5) is a type of graphics card memory. It will be the successor to GDDR4. Unlike its predecessors, GDDR5 has two parallel DQ links that provide doubled I/O throughput compared to GDDR3 and GDDR4. GDDR5 is currently in its design state, and products should be available as early as the first half of 2008.[1]

Qimonda, a spin-off of Infineon, has demonstrated and sampled GDDR5 [2], and released a white paper about the technologies behind GDDR5 [3]. On May 10, 2008, Qimonda announced volume production of 512 Mb GDDR5 modules rated at 3.6 Gb/s (900MHz), 4.0 Gb/s (1GHz), and 4.5 Gb/s (1.125GHz).[4]. Samsung has announced plans for the transition to GDDR5 by the beginning of 2008 [5].

Hmm, GDDR3 at (1200mhz clock) 2400mhz DDR speed on my card is 115.2GB/Sec on the 384Bit Interface.

Duff-Man, Get lost.

I back up every review or such with URL's but I aint going to go and grab any more than the 2 URLS I grabbed in 2 seconds above.

You can even read in this very forum, that many thought the ATI was going to be faster.

Amusing isn't it. :D

Very...

ATI have even admitted themselves that their 4870 is in direct competition with the GTX260...

And once again DRIVERS...

On the 88gtx/hd2900 release, the 2900 was in competition with the 88gts, but was getting VERY close performance to the 88gtx... Then nvidia's drivers matured, and the 88gtx was top dog for sure... How come people never seem to remember trends =\

Ok peeps calm it down now or people take a holiday. Keep it civil please, bunch of bleedin' kids sometimes I swear.

Perfectly calm, I think people just like to see actual sources when people make bold claims. No point arguing when it holds next to no substance.

I made a mistake entering my 1st ATI thread.

I thought it was going to show it winning overall in the benches.

Anyhow it did not and may be fake but I only went by comments I have read over weeks.

At what time was the 2900 very close to the 8800gtx on performance? It could sometimes keep up without aa but was very poor with aa applied. It was ati's drivers that matured and allowed the 2900xt to go past the 8800gts not the 8800gtx getting better drivers and pulling away.

"a group of thousands that say that we are all slaves to retilian shape-shifting overlords, so does that make it true?" Are you saying thats not true  :D.

Yea that was 4850 anyhow I wait on the 4870 to release and see results from good sites.

And it ain't tomorrow (23rd) like someone hoped in other thread.

Very true - but isnt it also true that in a previous generation it has been the opposite, with ATI improving its drivers dramatically?

No gaurentee this time, of course, but hopefully possible - either way for the price I cant see how anyone can argue and for anyone with interest in multi channel audio decoding there isnt any choice anyway (as nv can only do stereo):D
