Steal a Bentley, make 3 police cars crash and what do you get...?

Surely with all these people not in jail the cost, in damages, benefits(lets be honest, highly likely for a lot of them) treatment to other injured parties to police, or the people mugged and so on. Surely its cheaper to build a new prison and stick them in rather than anything else.

100 security guards paid to keep all these criminals in a safe, secure place so innocent "good" people aren't in danger, and surely if they are all out on the streets and extra 100 policeman will be needed to constantly chase them down to prevent crimes but with lots of collateral damage aswell.

Its as simple as this, we ALL know crimes are going on, crime stats are going down, the government know why. People report crimes less as theres little evidence, witness intimidation and little being done to those found guilty anyway, of which most people aren't found guilty. Theres simply little point to report most crimes anymore as its more trouble than its worth. This works for the government as they can claim crime is down, nice campaign slogan. Why, someone answer me, why does the government build more prisons, if crime isn't increasing, theres simply not a single reason at all they can answer that question without admiting crime is up, and quite significantly. That is why prisons don't get built. Think of all the people who deal with the criminals while they are out on the street, police, public defenders, etc, etc, etc, the benefits they get, the housing, and the collateral damage. THe argument we don't have the money to build more jails is ridiculous on sooooo many levels, its FAR more expensive to have them on the street. however building prisons means admiting the country is getting worse, crime is up, the subculture of criminals is getting larger and worse. Its all crap, people that break the law should be in jail , for serious crimes like murder and rape, in jail for a long time, mostly for life and thats simply not happening.

I suggest to ease prision overcrowding, anyone in for heinous crimes such as murder, rape, child molestation, sadism etc shall all be withdrawn from the prison they are currently in, loaded onto a cattle truck, then dumped into Eastcroft Incinerator. En masse. This might serve as a future deterrent.

Jawohl meine oberst!

What housing do police get, aside from the likes of a section house in the Met which is a single room, shared kitchen etc ?

so because i said housing, way down in a sentence that said police you just add the words together and ignore logic. Or maybe I was talking about the benefits, the housing and collateral damage that criminals get/cause. Police however are paid, and the more criminals we leave on the street, the more police we need, so cost increase there. In all honesty a lot of criminals are sponging benefits while commiting crimes instead of being in jail, so we are literally paying the same amount for them to be free, as in jail except they can commit crimes. Those that aren't on benefits still cause massive costs from the other things I mentioned. The idea that it costs more to keep them in jail, is completely and utterly ridiculous. The cost of a jail might be high, but its not like they can't be built cheap compared to how many people they hold, small cells and so on, no land cost as it would be government, paying the government for the land. Plenty of unused land to use to build jails. Its all a joke, the only downside to admiting to needing and then building more jails, is you admit crime is going up. Of all the MANY MANY things this government wastes money on I don't think many, if any tax payers would begrudge paying to have murders and rapists, and even muggers off the streets for longer like they should be, and have more safety so even if it did cost more I couldnt' name a person I know who would be against paying an extra £5 tax a year to get rid of the scum.
