Shyness drug could boost confidence

Sounds good if it can help people with autismn etc. though Im guessing people would build up a mental addiction to the stuff.

No point trying to bond with someone if no one is willing to bond with you I'm afraid. Saying that, with some people it is their looks that creates the problem. So not a wonder drug. Might help "emotionally troubled" peeps ?

A drug has been out for years for this, heres an example!

I would have thought it could help people who get nervous in exams, i failed 2 exams in college due to being nervous. Good thing this has come up imo though it should be prescribed rather than readily available.

I'm not sure whether I think this is a good thing or not, as I've always been pretty shy myself and admittedly did used to drink in social situations to try and combat it, but that was because I lacked self confidence and worried too much what other people thought about me. Also the whole idea of diagnosing everything seems to be more and more popular, some things just need to be worked through rather than taking a drug as a temporary solution. I know there's a fair amount of people here who have said they are shy or lacking in confidence from the thread a while ago regarding the book "Instant Confidence" so wondered what everyone else's thoughts on this are?

Hopefully this isn't a repost as I have done a few searched.

Alternatively, people could just learn to cope with shyness and/or overcome it.

I am so sick and tired of seeing people popping pills to "cure" perfectly normal personality traits.

No surprise that these things always seem to emerge from the USA: home of the world's most neurotic, insecure, self-absorbed population.

Normal? I'd say shyness/social anxiety to the point where it severely and negatively effects your life is most definitely not normal, and it's not a good thing in any way whatsoever.

Obviously it's not quite as easy as simply learning to cope with it, otherwise they would have done it. Sometimes it's deep rooted and innate, complex and reoccurring, something that is extremely difficult or near impossible to resolve, and it makes people's lives hell.

Can't see what the problem is with resolving it by means of a drug especially if all else has failed. It's just altering chemicals in your brain, everything is just chemicals in your brain at the end of the day.

Why do you see social anxiety disorder as 'normal'? Do you also see depression as normal feelings of just 'feeling a bit down', or anxiety attcks as just normal worries? Some people are crippled by their worries of what other people think. If you accept that we treat what we define as abnormal for the other diseases then I don't know why you're so against this one.

Ohhh, so all we have to do is overcome it, thanks. In that case, should people with AIDS just overcome it? Yes, one's just a personality trait and the other is a terminal syndrome, but it seems like you're treating anxiety disorders and other such things as non-issues when, in fact, they are.
