!!!IN STOCK ATI 4870!!!

just been looking and there is only the HIS left in the 4870 and was wondering if these are any good as im going to bite the bullit and buy one but dont know if should go for this one or wait for the sapphire ones to come in tomorrow and get saturday delivery what do you think

mmm seems a touch pricey considering its not 1gb

Early days. 4870 512Mb has a list price of $299 and the 4870 1Gb is $329

The 4870 512Mb has a minimum price over here of £180 but I expect not to see them quite as cheap as that, maybe £185-£200 once things settle down. Ocuk have some coming in on Friday at £199

The 1gb version is only $30 more or about £18 mininium therefore once they settle down as well, they ought to be in the £205 to £220 range although probably £230-£250 on launch due to supply and demand.

£250 would still be very reasonable to be fair.

Compared to the performance it gives against the GTX280 it is, but compared to the 4850, and the 4870's proper price, it's very expensive. In about a week 4870s will be £180 in a few places, and they'll have stock too.

GDDR5 is basically *4 that's all there is to it really.

On another note it seems there is a bios around that fixes powerplay for the 4850's lets hope there is one for the 4870's soon too.

[edit]

This seems to be the MSI bios with fixed powerplay if anyone feels brave enough to try it. It clocks the GPU at 160MHz and the RAM at 500MHz when in 2D mode by the looks of it

That's pretty interesting actually, is anyone able to flash their cards with an MSI bios yet?

As we can see, though, demand is very high for these cards.

The market will govern the price to an extent, as we saw with the 8800GTs.

That's true, but there's already listings of the 4850 being £120 and the 4870 being £180. :)

The powercolor 4850 is already priced at £122. Anyone know if they'll be coming in this Friday?

Prsonally I'm waiting a week or two. Let the 1gb cards come out and all the prices to drop and buy a 1Gb card for the moeny people are paying for a 512Mb today.

I might as well, just for the sake of longevity. You never know if that extra 512Mb might come in handy one day.

Even without price drops, I still think the £20 extra is worth it for the 1Gb version as you get have a more than a £20 variance between 512Mb card prices already.

I think the 4870X2 is going to be an interesting card, with this new way the cores communicate. I assume it will thus be a better performer than 4870 CF? Is it similiar to the way the Q6xxx communicate between the 2 dual cores?

Either way, brilliant time to be buying a new GPU, and glad Nvidia have got what they deserve after their boring propoganda.

HI there

Another large delivery of HIS just arrived, we now have enough stock to last the weekend. :)

Do you know if there will be powercolor 4850s coming tomorrow?

Also, any chance of there being a saturday delivery free upgrade for friday orders? :p

They should be arriving tommorrow but unfortunately we are in the hands of the courriers on if they arrive or not. :D

Weve done all we can to get them here and have it all setup to deal with it when they arrive, I am sure Gibbo will be chasing this up just a little! ;)
