100% 4850 fan speed

50% was my max, i tired 65% and it sounded pretty loud, i can't imagine how shocked the people that pulled out the blue wire must have been. I also get to keep my warranty by not taking off the heatsink :D

i have done this and my temps are down to 54c on 1 card.....but my other card is still at 80c....how do you get them both to come down....

no worries....scrolled further down and found the other card...sorted now

Right im gonna get a 4850 which one shall I get? Is there any difference between the hsi/sapphire ones? Which 1 has the best cooling or can I get an aftermarket cooler.

the only differences will be warranty, and support. At the moment all the fan solutions are the same. I went with sapphire, mainly because for me, it was cheapest.

Interesting read. Just this morning put an old VF900 Fatality on my 4850 after selling my X1900XT with my S1 on it. It now runs silently and cool.

I'm not sure how you can call a VF900 Fatality "silent". My bog standard VF900 is audible at 5V, so god knows what a Fatality version sounds like.

This method works but fixes the fan speed. So it wont ramp up under load. Be careful not set it it soo low that load temps shoot up above 100C.
To get full load, use furmark stability test without AA.

Well, as long as it's above 20% it will be better than what stock speeds are!

Nope, the standard stock bios ramps the fan up under load according to a function whereby it reaches 100% at 106C. Youll need to look at a bios with RBE to see what I mean.

If you set it to 50%, at all temps aboe 87C the fan will be running too slow. Also, people ive seen arent stressing the cards well enough. ATITool artifact scanner for example, with a stock bios leads to temps of ~85C. But use Furmark and you reach ~95C.

Are games as stressful as furmark? My temperature just kept increasing, degree by degree, about 1C a minute, i stopped it when it got to 86C, which was about 6mins in!

Ive found that Crysis on very high and GRID at max settings are almost as stressfull. Since you could potentially play those games hours at a time, im sure you dont want the game crashing. Especially if youre at the end of a 24 minute Le mans race.

I've deleted my fan profile, the automatic one was much better, never once went over 88C, and used 46% fan at max load. Why is it that people seem to think the fan is stuck at 20% all the time, I know I've been mislead. I wouldn't suggest using a fan profile unless the fan was set to at least 50% all the time. Thanks for pointing this out to me ghost101 :)

I think the point is use sacrifice a bit of silence for lower idle temps. I personally dont care that much about idle temps, but if you are overclocking it is nice to keep the card below 90C at load. So I have a bit more aggressive fan profile.
