Fastest you can go for 8k?

all this m5 and evo talk is all well and good, but i think it has to be clarified what the budget is for not only the car, but also how much he has aside for insurance and running costs, if he just has 8k then tbh the op really only has 5-6 k, but if he has 11k in total then the evo might not be out of reach, and the m5 would be if more funds were put aside i.e. a 10 m5 and 1k insurance.

i think before anyone can give any interesting recommendations the big picture has to be made clear.

something with a VAG 1.8T would probably do the trick. Be that a Leon 1.8T, Golf, Octavia VRS etc all in this price range really.

182 insurance is quite expensive from the qoutes i recieved. ( not as high as the prelude though!!)

Exactly, stuff like M5's are doable, but would be crazy for the budget.

I would suggest a decent M3 Evo for about £6500.

That leaves you £1500 for the nitrous kit ;)

425+bhp when you need it, 321bhp when you don't.

M3 Evo +1
Right price, quick enough and reliable enough, only thing is they are getting a bit dated now.

Expensive general running costs and dual Vanos really plays against the Evo, but there are loads around for not too much money.

A set of 4 tyres would probably cost more than the servicing, parts and tyres on my CTR for one year. I've really fancied owning an M3 for a while now, but could never run one sensibly.

You'd get a shed of a TVR Cerb for this sort of money, would be one hell of a quick money pit!

MR2 Turbo.

Can get a very nice Rev3 example for 4-5K, would leave plenty left over for insurance ( if that's what concerns you ) etc.

Can't get too much quicker bang for buck.

not the fastest and not rwd, but great fun to drive

alfa 156 with sportpack option, either the 2.0ts or 2.4jtd, as long as its been well serviced, just avoid the selespeed (semi-auto/paddle-shift combo) versions they're too difficult to maintain

a good one can be had for between £2500-£3000, just make sure the you keep it serviced (oil & filters 6 months, belts every 35,000miles) and take an interest in what goes on under the bonnet (regularly check the oil, tyre wear, etc), anyone can do a basic service if you have a few basic tools.

i'm on my second 2.0ts and only 24 and insurance is fine been driving alfas since 2004 and insurance has always been under £850 fully-comp (and i have 2 sp30's), these last two years i've had protected ncb included too.

another suggestion would be a honda prelude, particulary the newer shape ones (not sure if you would class them as an everyday car though due to their lack of seats)

on a side note, what kind of driving experience was it and where?

I got to drive 4 cars:

911 Turbo
Gallardo
DB9
360 Modena

All were awesome, but the Gallardo was my fave. It was with a company called Drivers Dream Days and it was at the Pro Drive test track in Kenilworth.
