obviously not.. you dont hear yourself speak in your head. your thinking it, so they think thoughts aswell. There not gonna have a little translator man in the bottom of their mind are they

and how does deaf and dumb go together?

Surely if a person is born deaf then the chances are that they will be dumb too.

my next door neighbor, she was born deaf n dumb and she can sorta say some words correctly

guess they try to copy from lip reading, they will be able to tell by the others facial expressions if they are saying the word correctly or not, (if ye get me)

Or if any one knows some one that is.

Was out and about before and I seen a deaf man signing to himself, like he was talking to himself.

So here is the question, are deaf / dumb people able to speak to themselves in their head? Like say to themselves, I know Ill do this first instead of doing that, if they have never heard anything or have never been able to speak.

Possibly a silly question but I canny get my head around it.

that deaf guy you saw probably got something wrong with his head, not just cos he's deaf, you get hearing people talking to themself, no difference.

i'm deaf and use sign language all the time and no i dont talk (sign) to myself ;)

why do deaf and dumb have to go together?

if grandmother is deaf, does this mean she's dumb?

No, and some find it offensive to call someone who is deaf as dumb. Just seems plenty of us use the two hand in hand when it comes to describing those who are deaf or hard of hearing.

As rightfully said, its the mechanism of education delivered to deaf folks that portrays them as perhaps being dumb when in fact they might not be.

And yes I do think those who are deaf might talk to themselves out loud as we all think and speak in our minds – don’t we?

I'd hazard a guess that the term 'dumb' is very much frowned upon in the deaf community.

I'm off to meet two deaf friends tonight, i'll ask! :D

So when you were typing out that sentence did you read out the words in your head to yourself, inner monolouge style, as you where typing them?

As for you people and your deaf & dumb thing you have going on Im guessing you just have not thought about this right.

I assumed that the OP is asking about both deaf and dumb people because his point can stand for both. His question was whether someone who cannot speak or can't hear others speak, would have the same inner monologue as one who can speak/hear.

Thats right Vixen.

Thus the reason why I have used a / and not a & or the word and.
