All New Summer 2008 Transfer Merry Go Round/Rumour Mill

It's being reported that we made a new £15m bid for Barry today (not the ealier reported £17-18m).

Really hope the Keane stories are true. Excellent player, would be a great partner for Torres and im sure he'd love to join us too (sorry Spurs fans).

The same paper that alleged Keane handed in a transfer request are now reporting that Keane hasn't made a transfer request. Think they have realised the guy is on honeymoon and have quickly back tracked.

I doubt he will leave.

It's being reported in more than just the Mail though so could very well be something there. Like i said, im sure he'll want the move if there is any truth in the stories.

I would be pretty happy if we didnt get Barry to be honest. Frankly I would much rather we spent that kind of money on someone else.

Would love to see Keane join though, strikes me as just the sort of player that Torres needs along side him

I think this will have to be a make or break season for Benitez at Anfield this year. Loose Crouch and gain Keane. Loose Xavi Alonso and gain Barry. Whilst finishing 1st maybe a stretch finishing a good 2nd this year would have to be seen as a real achievement.

Chelsea are spending big and buying players that should add another dimension to the team.

United have a strong squad and whilst I am moaning about our lack of transfer activity we don't need wholesale changes. The addition of quality above and beyond what we have is necessary.

Arsenal still look a bit lightweight to me.

How is what Barry doing, worse then Ronaldo or Adebeyor??

At least he's came out and said it outright instead or beating round the bush like the other two. Or completely changing his story each week.

Exactly what i was thinking. Barry has came out and clearly said he wants to leave rather than **** around saying you'll make a statement in x amount of days every other day.

I still don't want Barry though :(

The thing with Ronaldo saying he would wait 'x' days was because he (I assume) was waiting to speak with Man Utd, but Ferguson was still away, which is why there hasn't been anything.

I would say all 3 have been very unprofessional over the summer, but in 3 different ways, but the Ronaldo transfer is the major story as he's the only truly top class player of all three.

I've mentioned this many times, I really can't see why Liverpool want Barry so much, it's odd. In 5 years he might be as good as Alonso is now, and Alonso now isn't what he was 3 years ago! I'd rather gamble on Alonso coming back to form than Barry stepping up a couple of levels.

Well if Barry is refusing to attend training then thats why I think its worse. The other two seem to want a move but I don't think they'll sink that low, that interview at the weekend was blatently set up by Barry's people to try and force a move.

Why because he's not lying down and letting Liverpool to get him on the cheap?
I wouldn't call ~£15m "on the cheap". O'Neil just seams determined to deny a player that's served Villa well for 10 years the opportunity he desperately wants. Sometimes if a player wants to move that badly you just have to let him go, or risk cutting of your nose to spit your face. The sad thing is O’Neil strikes me as the kind of manager that prepared to do this. Where dose that leave Villa and Barry?

It seems to be a standard price for a british midfielder give or take a little, mediocre price for a mediocre player (Liverpool are being asked for more because its between two EPL teams in potentially direct competition for high finishing places

as above (and when this transfer was first mentioned, personally think Liverpool are losing out on this transfer, potentially in the long run they could gain but Alonso is still a better player now

Sick and tired of all three now (Ronaldo, Barry and Ade in that order of unprofessionalism) - I read somewhere today that R might be offered a committment contract or something ludicrous - - surely thats what a contract should be about in the first place!!!

The only thing Barry has done wrong is publically admit he wants to leave and slate Martin O'Neill in the process.

The interview he gave justified his reasons, and he feels let down by the club. He was told after Liverpool made an approach that Martin O'Neill would discuss a new deal with him, but rather than do that, he swanned off to the Euro's to make some cash on the side when his captain was the subject of a big money move.

He felt Martin O'Neill let him down and thus decided he isnt taking it anymore and is leaving. Nowt wrong with that.

O'Neil said weeks ago that Barry can go if Liverpool match Villa's price, Liverpool know what that price is and they're just sodding Villa about by continually offering less than that. The only people who are holding up this transfer is Liverpool! Give Villa what they want (18 million) and the whole thing will be done and dusted.

And for the record I agree with the majority here that they're replacing Alonso with a far inferior player.... Rafa's dodgy transfer dealings continue into another summer :p

he hasnt refused to do training tho has he, hes been suspened from attending.
Ah ok, thought he refused.

What is O'Neill meant to do though? They apparantly sat down and O'Neill said he wasn't going to be sold. Barrys just whinging that they didn't offer him a better contract to make him stay by the sound of things.

Amen, Villa want the going rate, simple as that.
