All New Summer 2008 Transfer Merry Go Round/Rumour Mill

Would win the EPL with correct and good management.

I think you might be right there. Chelsea are certainly showing their ambition to sign quality players. Unless we get some signings sorted then I think Chelsea will certainly have the stronger squad on paper at least.

Funny how we have gone from having a sizeable transfer kitty available should we need to sign players just after the Champions league. Now Fergal is saying we need one at most. I hope I am proved wrong but I think it shows a lack a bit of complacency to look at fine tuning the squad with one addition

On paper are the appropriate words - with such a huge change it will take along time to settle them all into a concise -workable team wouldnt you think, let alone actually getting up to speed in the EPL with a new manager?

Over time they would be formidable no doubt, but I still reckon it would take enough time for them to be out of running for the 08/09 title (unless Utd / Arsenal / 'Pool have a shocker of a start, unlikely all three will though)

Heartily agree on the transfer kitty though - several reports stating we gained £80m from both wins last season, suddenly we are struggling to pay £30m for one player, not good news at all (I know Manucho is due back, and hopefully some youngsters but even so still hoping for two proven "names" to join the squad)

I would be AMAZED if Drogba is allowed back in SW10 after last season's antics, and I would also be surprised if RM allow Robinho go until after they know Ronaldo deal is really a no go'er (obviously they get the cash to strengthen the deal, but as SAF has rightly said sometimes even with the cash you cant find the right players)

Whats the news on Arsenal? Firstly we are selling the whole team all summer, then linked with everyone going, but nothing happening either way.

I would happily sell ade for £30m. I know we have some good youngsters coming through but I would like 3 or 4 been there done that players added to the squad.

I do hope we get a new CB, which we have been needing for the past few years now.

From what I've read, Arsenal look set to sign Bischoff and Nasri at any minute.

The Nasri deal is getting a bit laughable now tbh, why hasn't it been tied up yet? Marseille have their replacement (HBA) so why can't the deal for Nasri be confirmed?

Well we've got Ramsey although i don't think he'll feature much this season and Vela is going to be in the first team squad for the first time. The Nasri deal has gone very quiet and i've not heard of any others incoming recently. It is slightly worrying as even if we keep all of last seasons team (minus Flamini obviously) we still need more depth and cover especially on the left of midfield, CB and up front.

Newcastle sign Argentina winger Jonas Gutierrez from Real Mallorca on a five-year deal for an undisclosed fee.

January rumours were that he was off to Pompy for £10m, but according to some sources he threatend a 'Webster' so the fee is much lower than that.

Looks like we are developing a professional approach to player recruitment and signing players without a fanfare and leaks to the press.

It won't last.

Hasn't Wenger come out and said that you don't need any more defenders though?

As you mention, so far you have only signed Ramsey, and obviously the arrival in the first team of Vela (so practically classed as a new signing) are not going to be enough to solve your problems. I am all for teams buying quality youngsters and getting them used to the playing style and slowly implementing them into the first XI (ala Fabregas) but when will Wenger learn that buying youngsters for the future wont resolve any problems you currently have.

Will this mean Milner is definitely off to Liverpool?

Don't forget Eduardo will be fit for the start of the season and Rosicky shortly after, so that's 2 new signings, also RvP is fit (at the moment) so that's another.

I'm not sure if he was actually quote as saying that but i have seen it posted. We are fine RB and LB it's just if Gallas or Toure is injured it means relying on Senderos again which is never good. Song looked ok at CB at the tail end of last season although i'm guessing Wenger will play him DM instead of Flamini.

Totally agree, we need to splash the cash on 2 experienced players. A goal scorer and a creative left sided midfielder. That's not taking into account the fact we might be without Hleb and Adebayor.

Along with a new manager we must've had at least 6 new players in the 04/05 team and won that easily enough so just 3 this time shouldn't be a problem:)

I have no faith in Rosicky or RvP staying fit for more than 3 months though. Eduardo didn't really impress me that much last season apart from 2 of his finishes. He's going to struggle coming back from that injury let alone building on last season.

It's being reported that we made a new £15m bid for Barry today (not the ealier reported £17-18m).

Really hope the Keane stories are true. Excellent player, would be a great partner for Torres and im sure he'd love to join us too (sorry Spurs fans).

Good signing for Newcastle that, he was the only Argentine who impressed me when I watched them play Brazil a few weeks ago.

Sky reckon the Barry bid is 15m + add on's, wonder what Rafa has thrown into the mix this time :D

Not one that hadnt managed club football though in what 12 years, and the back room staff was pretty solid EPL experience also (didnt you lose one of your major guys behind the scenes in the last month of the season this year?)

That was also the first full year Man Utd where without Keane - which would be a huge loss to anyone

A few of the new players you mentioned came from the premiership didnt they (so they had EPL experience - which is what you may miss this season esp if Lampard and Drogba go)

I will happily admit I am wrong if my thoughts prove to be inaccurate - just hypothesising :D

I believe there is still a rangle between the clubs over HBA transfer. 6 youth players have also signed pro terms at the club.

The transfer window has only been open 2 days and people are restless already!!

Sky know **** all though. The £15m + add on's was the earlier reported £17-18m bid, it seems as though it is just a flat £15m (Liverpool stated that any bid won't have add on's).
