EMA Bonus Question

Umm im a sixteen year old, who goes to sixth form/college.
Basically i cant get EMA because my parents earn over the limit to recieve this.
But most of mates get it and really it intensivly annoys me because a lot of them keep this as personal money and doesnt go on anything else. Where as i have to work to provide any extra money i want, and they get money for going to school like the same as me.
Umm personally im not sure if i would take, well actually i would take it, but i know that i can support my self without getting incentives *payed* to go to school, school kids should know that carrying on in education will ultimatly will give them a better future.

TBH, it's their money once they recieve it. They may be getting the basics at home but everybody likes the luxuries in life and to deny them this because of their parents low income isn't fair. It's their choice what they do with it. People need a social life.

Who is to say that they don't work to earn money as well as recieve EMA? That's what I done. Your entitlement depends on your parents income, not your own.

Its a craply set up system like most of the ways the government gives money away but I wasnt complaining when they wanted to throw a tenner at me every week

Yeah i know, for me its hard because i dont like being a hypocrite that gets on my nerves also and i just got told that next year everyone is able to recieve EMA and more than going to take it. But what i think i will do is be generous with it like buy mates food and drinks and all that other poop, but yeah anyways.

Sorry for double post.
But i understand this, i know its there parents income that is based upson, i know plenty people in my year who use their EMA money with there job earnings and a lot of them get pretty good earnings each month from there jobs (mainly weekend jobs) and gets put towards there own social life. But the money was intended because i looked at the school contract for this and the main idea of it was for it to be spent on school related purchases therefore leading to cash for other things outside school.

What course could possibly require the student to spend £30 a week?

Lunch and transport to school £6 a day would just about cover that

Nah, free oyster cards for the win.

I get EMA but my school has a 100% attendance policy or no EMA that week. Even if your late.

The bonus has an attendance of 95% over the course of the year as well I think, and as long as you haven't failed everything.

Was quite strict but study leave now so I'm being payed not to go to school :D

You just dont want to leave your nice warm sheep :p

Not really what you would call school purchases though, are they? And the criteria for EMA are the same for free transport and free lunch from College.

Id call them quite major ones without transport you cant turn up and if id gone without lunch I wouldnt of been doing much work. I know loads of people who were given the various amounts of EMA but very few qualified for free lunch and iirc free transport is not provided in my town

Umm not sure what you mean, but most schools/colleges offer free buses and such but a fair few students get a taxi due to the bus being unaccessable.
But yeah i have done enough serious-ness for today. Ill leave it at that.

You'd qualifiy for free lunch and transport anyway if you were getting that much ema. The reality is that people only put down one of their parents wages if they are split up or self employed leading to people who are just as well off, and in some cases even better off, recieving £30 a week. The wages of peoples parents tend not to affect how much kids get from their parents in my experience. And of course we know what that £30 a week gets spent on don't we.....

Instead of giving people £30 a week to spend on video games, they could give every student in the country free transport.

You still cannot put restrictions on what people spend their money on. Did anybody really think that those recieving EMA were only going to spend it on purchases for their course?

I didn't need to make one purchase throughout my course in Software Development, transport was free, and I payed for my own lunch.

The £30 I recieved each week was put into a seperate bank account. Some was used, but the bulk of it is still there, ready to buy me my first car.

I guess, in a way, I am putting it towards transport. :p
