Like i said in a previous post, since the update my ps3 has been signing off from psn while im playing MGO happened 8 times now, never happened before the update and its bloody annoying.

2.40 better than Live? Already was before 2.4.

They are not broken as such, you just have to format the hard drive. They will do it for you if you can't though.



As for the PSN vs Live... There is no doubting that Live IS the better service. However, PSN is free and is offers almost as many features and is, imo, easier to use and has a better interface. I really hate the 360's blades where as the XMB is very nice. So in general I would say PSN is the better service. Basically 75% of the features but for free. Once (if?!) Home comes out there will be no comparison. End of the day though it's down to personal preference. Sadly having a preference makes you a fanboy on the Internet!

Earlier on I had possibly the worst session of cod4, ever.

Nobody in our clan could stay signed in continuously and the same seemed for others on the servers.
Loads of people, including the hosts leaving the game much more than I've ever experienced before, In the end we called it quits and I've gone back to the wii again.

Now that 2.4 has been pulled I'm eagerly awaiting an update that allows trophies for all games and various other things that posters in this thread have passed comment on.
The problem with cod4 headsets is also seriously frustrating (sometimes certain people can't hear others or be heard themselves), that needs to be fixed too.

The update does allow trophies with all games, they just have to support the feature. You can't magically expect Sony to add these trophies to each game with an all powerful firmware update, thats not how software works.

"Proper" ingame invites again are going to have to be patched in as far as I can tell. Personally I don't see what the real problem is with the current system in say Tekken 5 where you send an invite - the person receives the message which they can now read in their ingame XMB. Now all they have to do is launch the game and join the game via the invite received menu.

I think people need to get their head around the idea that everytime Sony add's new features to their firmware older games aren’t necessarily going to support it without a patch.
 
fine here on 60gig console, just seems another update that kills consoles much like the one MS did with error code on bootup last year, seems random whatever it is........
 
They will not be adding extra functionality to the firmware when it's re-released, they're simply fixing it.

Trophies can't be added to all games by Sony, the devs have to put them in, it's physically impossible for Sony to put them in as it's the devs code, Sony do not have the right to modify it.

Forced custom soundtracks cannot be applied, Microsofts patent prevents this. What Sony have done is added the ability for devs to add a pre-made app to their games to allow custom music. This needs to be patched in to older games, once again, Sony cannot do this, the game developers need to.

Cross game invites will be introduced eventually

I say again, 2.4 is a platform on which the updates people really want will be built. It isn't the second coming of the messiah.

So, because they have added features, but not added the specific ones people want, they are going to get sued for the free service they provide? Methinks that's not the case.

I dont understand how MS can patent what is effectively a short-cut / access way to content the user theoretically owns a licence to play

(Im not knocking the fact that they have applied for it - as I know what you have posted is the truth, it just sounds like complete garbage :D

This is why different SKU's never made sense to me in these consoles - the quirky nature of this killing off very specific versions (as yet unknown) must make problem solving for every firmware update a nightmare

Dont see why Sony deserve this barage of hate, they removed the firmware pretty darned quickly as soon as the seriousness of the problem was realised

People just look for an excuse to hate Sony

2.40 is released, Main things that are mentioned and picked on are the things that are not there, no real mention of what is now a great basis for a great up and coming PSN.

Then it's said that it's causing some problems so get's taken away quickly, before mass problems occur, No mention of Sony response time, But only the fact it should have been perfect straight away.
 
TBH i cannot see what needs fixing, it works on the majority across all SKU's all regions, seems the ones that do have an issue are mainly USA models, probably down to some unreliable wifi connection or dodgy connection whilst downloading f/w again like most of the problems you see on offical xbox360 forums whenever an update comes out with cries of "X" update killed my 360.

There are a couple of issues i'm having, i get the occasional error 7777777 pop up, god knows what that means and i'm constantly getting signed out of the PSN.
 
it seems if you have installed successfully , then it should be ok reading the official statement from sony, im a bit unsure if i should play mine know just in case i get a problem , i might wait for a fix
