yes, its fine. it seems the firmware and something loaded at started dont like eachother, but if it boots after updating its fine. i dont know anybody who bricked their ps3 from it anyway. mine is perfectly, now on trophy level 2:)

its we didnt predict that peopel would complain about the update is it? :/


oh i just thought - something i havent tried yet: when you recieve a message does it actually inform you?
 
well mine works fine
never tried a disc game though lol better check that
shame its bricked some consoles and been pulled hopefully they fix it soon enough
not sure what can have gone wrong i know they have a few sku's but not really hard to test it on them all is it
is it not more likely people turning the machine off while it installs

If Sony weren't messing about with Home they could have had 2.4 in place last year before the bigger games came out in the fall and at this time we would probably have in game messages, invites, custom soundtracks on most games and everything else that Live has.

I guess it's a start though.
 
havent updated mine to 2.40 yet but for the first time ever...my ps3 had problems connecting to my router...had to mess about to get it to work.... im hoping it was not a sign of crappy broadband but more crappy psn instead :D

I must be, the PS3 does far more. ;)

Whilst the online side of things arnt quite up there, like invites and whatnot, most other features are equaled. And quite frankly, i wouldnt expect those extra online features to be added considering Sony are providing their online for free.

Thats just my opinion anyway.

Balls, I updated yesterday, didnt even release there was any problems. Im getting cut off from PSN every 5 mins but apart from that it seems OK.

I havent tried any bluray films yet, I have watched a couple of DVDs and they were fine, havent tried any games yet either.

are there actual reports of machines being borked becuase of this then, if mine goes pop because of a offical sony update that it prompted me to download I will be majorly pi**ed
 
Does the firmware write to flash0 like on PSPs? The PS3 will be deemed useless and fully bricked if it fubars flashing, if not, format harddrive all ok.

Well, after some investigation I found it was only certain games this was happening to. All others were fine until I put one of the "bad" games in, then nothing would work at all, not even ones that worked before. Phoned Sony and they had me do a few things that didn't work, as it was strange that only certain games didn't work he got a supervisor who had me try a few different things. Low and behold it worked! Seems as if it was a mix of my settings, something I'm not quite sure about, and the new firmware that was conflicting somewhere along the line with certain games.
