It is an interesting idea. I'd like to know what you'd base your book on. Would it champion science as the 'be all and end all' and a provider of ultimate truth?

This could be one way of taking it. However, surely doing all this wouldn't we, the converted-atheists who've been chosen to put God's words onto paper and, ironically, arguing in the name of science (thus theoretically disregarding "God"), actually be testifying to his existence?

It seems in order for this plan to work I need to identify some kind of harmonious relationship between religion and science, whereby "God" can exist but science is ultimately correct and religion is incorrect.

Anybody with me? :p

lol

Sorry I'm talking about the "effect on people", what causes the effect.

How would you classify Sin, can you give a couple of examples of something you consider a Sin

I didn't say "a" sin, just an essence of sin, like an essence evil.

Sin is a cause of the "effect on people". Almost like an air of negativity.

I think he means because of Adam & Eve, we are already born in Sin. So bad stuff is supposed to happen because god made it that way.

Such a lovely being...why respect a being that disrespects his creations desire to learn?

Well, you can count me out:p

I value my religious persuasions much more highly than any potential faith in the scientific method to provide truth. But I don't see any incompatibility between science and religious belief, which is perhaps where you and I differ.

But I don't see any incompatibility between science and religious belief

What religion though, certain religions say the earth is only a few thousands years old where science thinks it about 4.5 billion, isn't that an incompatibility?

Depends entirely on interpretation. If you take the Bible to be a metaphorical account then it's perfectly compatible. In fact, interpreting the Bible completely literally doesn't really work at all because it's self-contradictory.

I was speaking of religious belief in general. The premise that not everything can be predicted by mathematical models, or indeed needs to be.

I'd consider myself a very scientifically minded guy. I study a scientific degree, I'm fascinated by maths and various branches of science and I employ scientific principles in my work to get things done. But none of this conflicts with what I believe about human nature, sin, free will and various other philosophical/religious concepts. All of these beliefs are outside of the realm of science and I'd expect you'd consider me quite insane for believing what I do.:)

Again this is another "real problem" I have with many religions, if it's not considered fact and "the word of God" then it's open to interpretation, interpretation by man!

At that point it just loses any credibility.
