sim city 4

To my knowledge densitys are best used as low as possible to get small-medium growth, and then once you've got a nice region going and you've run out of land.. rezoning parts of your low/mid-density to high will give you nice big buildings. By zoning too big to begin with, cities can get wayyy out of control.

With proper planning, you can easily expand your city with high density to start with, In my xp games ( gotta transfer the saves, as xp isn't stable for me any more after changing hardware too often probably) all my suburbs are mid density and any new neighborhood near the center is high density, just have to make sure to make enough public transport and wide ( avenues/onewayroads/highways) well planned roads to divert the traffic from the neighborhoods, but also make it flow well without congesting.

just to clear up

hi tech will grow on medium and high density, but if your putting any industry next to houses your only going to want hi tech so whack your dirty and man taxs up to 20%.
its always good to keep some dirty and manu industry in a seperate tile because not everyone gets covered by the school systems.

this thread (even though created by me agggggggges ago) is making me want to play again, i sucked bad the first time though lol

If you guys are having problems, try what I posted above. Only a few days ago I just couldn't get going. Now my main city has a pop of 250k+ and I'm sitting on 11k in the blue! It does work, you just need to progress slowly.

Get "NAM" Network Addon Mod or whatever it's called. It's an absolute godsend. SC4 has notoriously bad path finding - so even if you use it just for that, it's a great download.

I am going to ask a silly question, roundabouts for streets do you make them yourself or is there pre made mod ones as the ones i make are quite big i think they are 2v2 or 3v3 cannot remember,i got nam installed.

I think its or very simular to;

For 3v3 place one road tile in the middle and then one way around it

For 2v2 just do one way around the 4 squares
