Start my new job back in London on Monday and I'm actually going to try and save for once now im living back at home :D

I think I could easily get away with a fiver for food per day.

No drink as i drink coffee/water during the day only :)

Would a fiver be able to satisfy my needs in the likes of Pret/M&S etc?!

Having not worked in the UK for so long I can't remember what sandwiches etc cost now :D

Can't speak for London, but here in Stoke I get a bacon, sausage and egg French stick for £1.70 from a local butty shop.

A fiver will cover you for a sandwich or a salad from M&S and most of their meal deals. Pret, Eat, etc... will cover you for a sandwich, but if you start adding on other things they sell you will probably go just over.

Make your own, and you save yourself a bit of money.

£5 x 5 (assuming you only work a five day week) = £25
£25 x 52 (I know you get holidays!) = £1300 PA

Stop being lazy, get some discipline so you don't eat you sarnies on the tube and save yourself a load of cash and you can spend what you have saved on hookers, cycles or freaking huge plasma TVs

Tesco ftwtbh - micro meals for a quid. Cheap, easy and awesomeness in a packet. And if you eat it on a train you'll look really scary and will probably get nomnom poisoning or the like :o

Boots has a really good meal deal.

Yep, £2.99 for a sandwich, drink and choc\fruit\cake type thing.
Sign up for a Reward card and you get 8p in points per meal deal. Be the good samaritan in the office and get a couple of people's meal deals and your money soon adds up....
And right now they have an offer, buy 5 meals and the 6th is free, so you're not paying anything every 6 days!

I usually end up with a sandwich/fruit smoothie/some dried fruit or other snack... total individual price £5+... meal deal price ~£3. Result! :p

or a cycling hooker with a plasma tv on her back.

Why not take sandwich/lunch stuff into work and leave it into the fridge? That way you can make your lunch at work. That's what i do, but we do have infinite bread/condiments which is useful. Also, £5 is a lot for lunch if you're trying to save. You need to aim higher (..lower). I work in Soho and can go out and spend £3-4 on Thai curry/Pad Thai, Indian curry, jacket potato, chinese, pasta, salad etc.. pretty much anything (and of course sandwiches too). You've just got to hunt the places out.
