No Parking Sign the answer?

To be honest I would never let the other guy park there - even when you are not expecting anyone. That kind of behaviour needs to be nipped in the bud quickly.

I would see if you can get a sign up that says no parking. Perahsp see how far you can go with regards to clamping (maybe just give the warning but not actually clamp?)

I own the land he is parking on, it's like a long rectangle which has the garden at the back, then the house, then the front lawn, a through path (which we don't own), then our first space, then a through road for people to access the spaces (again, we don't own this either) and finally another space which is my land.

Amazing Paint pic attached, behold :)

Ok I admit that parking across both spaces will be a challenge there :D

Yes I would put up a sign. If nothing else it shows you are enforcing your ownership of the land. Otherwise it could get messy in a few years.

Would putting a sign up saying "Private Property. Cars parked here without permission will be clamped" yet not charging a release fee be legal?

It's just really annoying that he's the one that has 3, 4, 5, sometimes 6 cars down the little cul-de-sac at a time and thinks it's his right to park wherever he wants and gives me attitude when I ask him to move it like I'm inconveniencing him or something.

I will get a "No Parking" sigh in the week, thanks for the help.

And yes, he's a scumbag.

Not charging a release fee would defeat the object of it. He still won't lose anything by parking there if there's no fee.

Put up a ticket dispensing machine and a sign saying "Pay and Display". :D

But seriously, just get one of those retractable bollards fitted. Job done.

if he is parking on a public road, and the kerb is raised, he is legally entitled to park there!

Sorry

if the OP owns the land how can it still be public parking?

To the OP, get in touch with your local clamping company, get one of them to come out and explain the situation to them. See if they can legally put up a clamping in operation sign and next time he parks there get them to come out and clamp him for you.

I can't see they would say no to helping you as they will get the money from the fine.

On a side note, do you know why he has so many cars? Can't you contact your local council about him and make a complaint?

m8, you own the land and let some other people to use it even you need it sometimes, just told him to f..... ... or be nice and tell him its your land and you dont wish him parking his car there anymore, sorted,

Well there are several guys living there, him, two other male adults and his son so I think they all use one. I've no idea why he needs them all though, but he is in all day in the week so unless he works from home a lot, or has won the lottery he's doing something dodgy to afford them all :)

Clamping is an option, although you would have to contract an outside agency to enforce it, which isn't really an issue as they'll get some nice money from any release fee.

Although signage may be enough to detur them.

Burnsy

Get a banger and plonk it there. Or a trailer?

That wouldn't really help as the reason I want the space free is for when I get visitors.

Do you own the house? Remember, when you come to sell it this is the kinda stuff you have to tell the buyers.

Yes I own the house. And the couple me and the gf bought the house of didn't mention one of the neighbours was a total idiot..

Don't make any official complaint against him, as then you may have to tell anyone you sell to about him.

If there's nothing official you can just say you never had a problem.

I think in your situation it would be worth buying a lockable post, and putting some fixed posts around the sides if it's open. Should be able to do it all for less than £100 and a bit of effort.

This would be the best option. Unless he decides to commit criminal damage by removing the post theres no way he could park there again, job done. I would check with the council first though in case you need any sort of planning permission to erect a post there.

It does seem odd you'd own land the other side of the road as part of your deeds which is I guess why the other guy thinks he can park there.

Another thing to do is keep a check on all the vehicles that he parks and should any of them be out of tax, phone the local authorirty/police/dvla and then they will clamp them for you!!!

But I'd put a couple of posts in with a large chain between them and padlock, that should get the message across.
