Got pulled about an hour ago...fair enough

I remember being followed and backed into the local cemetery by a unmarked police car. They were still unrelenting even after seeing the bunch of flowers on my back seat.

whats with the hostility to police doing there job recently?
i got pulled the other night, driving through a little town at about half 12 at night, a traffic cop pulled me, politely informed me i had a tail light out(which i genuinely didnt know about), checked out the car and whilst the control room did there stuff we chatted away for about 15 minutes about cars, i was polite to them he was polite to me, he genuinely sounded like a good bloke, he wished me on a safe journey home and apologised for taking so long.

these guys are just doing what they are payed to do, i know i certainly wouldnt want a hard time if i was in there position.

I know. I don't really understand it when people get pulled over, and think it's not part of a Policeman's job.

my mates boyfriend got pulled on thursday night for drinking his milkshake! he got 3 points and a £60 fine!!!! what a joke. He got breathalysed and everything!

he's going to court to contest it. seems a bit extreme to me, the copper must have been having a bad day!

You park in the carpark opposite Harlequins.

Nice car.

Anyway, you get good officers and ones that are total morons.

Hi everyone btw

Whilst I don't have a problem with the police stopping you for a genuine reason and then doing a routine safety/compliance check on your car, stopping you for something so trivial and then searching your boot does seem a bit unnecessary to me.

The police can't just turn up and search your house for no reason, are they really allowed to search your car without reasonable cause? If so, why? I can't see any justifyable reason why the police should be able to randomly search my car. Check it's roadworthy - yes, but search its contents, err get lost!

Police seem to know when i'm driving back from a shoot. they'll stop me and check everything "do you have paperwork for these firearms sir?"

They always seem to detect my rifles and pull me even though they are properly cased and hidden from view.

He called in support and then me and my mate were searched. Then he searched the car, i was ******** bricks as i had a few "backup" cds in the glove box but he didn't seem to notice these. Then we were sent on our way, i wasn't to bothered as i suppose it did look a bit dodgy.

Police wouldn't give a damn about copied CDs.

Unless I am mistaken, copyright infringement is a civil case unless you were willingly profiting off the infringement.

god, I didn't know winchester was so rough.

That would be fun if it happened in Winchester :D

No, 'twas here at home in NI. A paramilitary shooting had happened somewhere nearby just before we arrived at the checkpoint and 4 guys were seen leaving in a silver Passat so we fitted the description perfectly.

Could have happened about 20 years ago when the Green Jackets were stationed at Peninsula Barracks up Romsey road. Don't think it ever did though.

Besides the armed police aren't far away in Winchester anyway ;)

It could still happen. I live in Peninsula Barracks and am occasionally awakened by troops marching, bugles blaring and boots stomping :D

This is nothing new, eating or drinking whilst driving is considered to be careless or even dangerous driving, technically you are not in full control of the car, not really any different to using a mobile.

Just the other day there was that post about the women who killed a motorcyclist whilst adjusting her stereo. To be honest I don't even like talking that much when I drive as I like to pay full attention to what I am doing, the amount of people I see wandering over the road as they are deep in conversation scares me!

He was driving and drinking a milkshake at the same time? If I were him I wouldn't take it to court as he'll risk a more severe fine.

The police would class as "failure to be in proper control of the vehicle".

That sounds about right..
At the very least he's likely to end up with 3 points, £60 fine, £15 victim surcharge and a wasted morning/afternoon, if the cop remembered to do the forms correctly.

About 20 years ago my dad was pulled for eating a mars bar whilst driving, the cop thought he was drinking something and checked the car out fully before giving him a warning about doing it in future.

Re the radio - there is a specific exemption for people using radios to communicate, presumably because it's vital for the emergency services (although they can still get done if they're in an accident and it's found to be a contributing factor).

It's worth noting that people who are "of interest" to the police are caught during routine stops due to speeding/dodgy lights etc, and if you're in an area with say a drug problem it can give them a great opportunity to see how you react and assess if you're dodgy.

It's one of the things that says to me the police are doing their job, they are being proactive in doing checks as a result of the initial stop (whatever the reason). I wouldn't object to being pulled over and checked if the officer thought i'd done something wrong, as long as they are fairly polite.

Depends whether he was moving or not tbh - the problem is the law doesn't make a distinction. There was a high profile case a few years back of a woman who was done for swigging a drink whilst stopped at a red light. Whilst the law might technically apply here, in reality she wasn't moving and thus didn't need her hands to "be in control". More seriously, if you're just as likely to get done for eating or drinking whilst stationary, what incentive is there to stop? You might as well do it on the move if the penalty is going to be the same.

I got pulled on sunday morning, about 9.15am, just a random stop check but they went through the whole thing, lights, full walk round the car, full pnc check on me, full check on the cars details, breathaliser and everything.

I had been drinking saturday night but it came up as 0 so i was happy, my car had just passed its mot 4 days before aswel haha. Gave me a whole speech about the dact i'm still in my 2 years of driving and i should watch myself, even though i did nothing wrong to get stopped and i have no points.

Or was he sitting at some lights?

Slightly related to drinking and driving, when riding a automobike I believe it's perfectly legal to take one arm from the handlebars? Obviously it's hopefully only going to be the left hand, what with the other one being needed to stop and go! My left hand starts to ache like a kitten after a few miles of traffic, clutch in, clutch out etc. Anyway what was I saying? Oh yes, I got one of those camelbak things for my Europe trip and used it often when on the go, wonder if i'd get moaned at over here.
