Microsoft Flight Simulator X

What you want is called 'Crash Simulator' :p

It's not about crashing. In the real world parts of the plane disintegrate or break off in extreme conditions, eg rapidly switching between max left and right rudder. The fact that fsx doesn't do this, makes it far from an ideal simulator, and much less fun to play. For a student pilot, these types of simulations could be life saving if they encounter it when flying a privately owned plane. It's not even difficult to implement and tons of people want the feature as you can see from pretty much any fsx crash video on youtube.

I stand corrected :) To be honest though from your first post it sounded like you wanted FSX to be something closer to a combat sim. I can see the attraction of trying to make a plane come apart in the air.

I would have to disagree here. FSX is designed with the modding / addon community in mind. Thousands of new aircraft are designed and shared by the community every year. Getting aircraft damage to work reliably in FSX when a significant proportion of users are flying "non-stock" aircraft would likely be a nightmare.

Though I agree that some aircraft damage visualisation (i.e. broken rudder, etc.) would be a nice visual touch, you also have to accept that it's a fairly difficult subject to approach in a product such as FSX, especially given the massive US market and their sensitivities about aircraft safety since 9/11, etc.

For these reasons, I can't see Microsoft / Aces introducing any aircraft damage systems in the near future or at all. Having flown in the FS skies since FS5, I'd have to say that I'm used to its absence. Besides, as a REAL pilot you can't see most of the damage 'til you're on the ground, and with FS being "as real as it gets" only simulating the effects of such damage to the pilot in the cockpit - though yaw, changed handling etc. should fulfil that brief perfectly ;)
