Yeah, but that would involve them sending somebody out when they thought Morgan Est had done it. I'm with you on this, just highlighting their laziness!

Should they not know though?

UU can't know for 100% certain unless they send out a crew to physically check that Morgan Est has done the work that they claim to have done.

Since this is both uneconomical and impractical (the sheer logistics are mind-boggling; UU just doesn't have extra workers to spare on "checking-up" visits all over the country), they don't do it unless they're already in the area.

Occasionally a site manager will go out and check it himself or send someone else to do so (usually if UU is in danger of incurring penalties, such as a council fine). But for the most part, if the sub says it's been done, UU will assume it's been done.

I'm guessing there is nothing in the contrats relating to failure to carry out duties or false reporting, or if there is it simply isn't acted upon.

In fact, both eventualities are covered in the contracts. And I speak from experience when I say that they are certainly acted upon.

UU will sting Morgan Est one way or another. They'll pass on any penalties they've incurred, demand free service, request that lost/stolen equipment is written off without charge, or obtain some other form of compensation. Everyone's in this business for the money, and they always exploit any slip-ups by their associates - to the full.

Whenever National Grid was threated with council fines (usually as a result of equipment being left too long on site), they'd phone me up and inform me that they would be passing the fines on to A-Plant.

Since those fines were often around £1,000 per day (charged retrospectively), you can appreciate that the incentive to play by the rules is pretty high.

I forgot to update the thread.

As of today no one at Morgan Est, no one being the two teams that were dispatched to replace the plate has taken responsibility for not changing the plate and the message that was sprayed. I do not know if the two teams are aware that there is photographic evidence to prove the work was not carried out when they said it was.

As per the UU request I have emailed the pictures.

As a result the UU project manager has requested that the project manager for Morgan est and all staff in the two teams attending a meeting on Monday to answer the question as to why they had said they had completed the work when they hadn't and to try and resolve who sprayed the message.

I will receive an update on Monday from UU and again I have been told that as and when the investigation is complete I will be receiving apologies from both UU and Morgan Est.

Good stuff, keep on them! :)

Dodging responsibility is what these guys are best at. I saw it all the time when I was with A-Plant (most of the time from our own depots. )

If you get their manages involved, the grunts further down the chain will be crucified. The lower ranks usually don't give a toss about being caught out by the public, but the higher echelons hate it - and they will make sure someone suffers for it.

To be fair I really haven't had to chase this since one lady decided to take ownership and follow it up so to speak.

Glad you got a result

I had one last year where some workmen were using a pneumatic drill 2 feet behind my car ( which was on drive ) , I went out and asked why they hadn't asked me to move my car, their reply was as it was only 8am they didn't want to wake me, can see their point as, of course, a pneumatic drill 10m from my bedroom window didn't wake me

car was not damaged but was covered in dust and crap

phone call to their office and not long after they came round to my house and gave me 40 quid to get the car valeted ( I sincerely hope it was their own money )

In truth I would have rather have given them a bucket of water and made them clean it themselves but was still fun anyway :p

Well as of yesterday I had received not received the apology that I had been promised.

Bizarrely I did receive a phone call from United Utilities telling me that the work in question had been completed.

At this point I was a little miffed, I took it upon myself to send an email to United Utilities pointing out there short comings.

The email was sent to the following.

Philip Green, Chief Executive Officer.
Matthew Wright, Operations Director.
Gaynor Kenyon, Communications Director.

Yesterday I received two responses from Philip Green, one personally from him and one from his PA, just a few minutes ago I have received another email personally from Matthew Wright.

The only person who has not replied is the communications director!

I will get my apology!

Did the CEO say 'sorry'? If so, you're not going to get better than that I wouldn't have thought.

I just want the people who were directly responsible, the United Utilities project manager for the work taking place and the Morgan Utilities equivalent to say sorry as I was promised. They are the two people who were ultimately responsibly for removing the hazard that was left in the first instance, I also want someone from Morgan Utilities to say sorry for the message that was sprayed on the plate that was replaced.

The CEO has said he is sorry for the way this was handled and will have it looked into.

The Operations Director has said sorry for the injury to my daughter and sorry for the way in which it has been handled and he too will have the matter looked into and get back to me!
