New Portal map packs that are actually good - >>in here<<

Was really looking forward to playing these but Steam has decided to throw a hissy fit and won't even display any games on the My Games list. I've realised once more why I hate Steam.

Restart Steam.

Would probubly have taken less time than writing a flippant post.

Sorry, hadn't thought of that :p

Seriously though, Steam is causing a lot of problems lately, I kind of have a love/hate relationship with it in that when it works it's brilliant but when it screws up it's just one more obstacle between me and gaming. Hopefully I'll get it going tomorrow.

my only problem with steam is it's ability to look like it's crashed.. it should open almost instantly, or at least have a loading bar

Brilliant, finally working. Didn't even have to do anything, it just decided to work.

The maps so far have been really good, especially the three crushing ceilings bit but there's a wee bit too much ultra reflexes needed for some of it.

Honestly i've never had a problem with steam since the day i got it (a few weeks after release). Sometimes it's clunky, but it was a god-send compared to EA's effort that came with BF2142

Well...I'm stuck on it now! :p

I have no clue what to do..well I do kinda, but what the hell quite frankly.

Which bit are you at? I'm quite far along now and will try and remember if I can. Sometimes you just have to stop everything and look around because there are always clues - even just in the way the rooms are built. But I don't need to tell you that, you know the game!

I thought that too initially, but it's not like the finale of the main game wasn't a massive pain to get through.

I hate Steam. I wish it would self-destruct. I'll never forget the day I gave up on Dark Messiah. I double clicked on the shortcut, Steam came up and told me, "Dark Messiah: this game will start in 1 hour, 23 minutes". Forget it.

Just got to the end... This is really good. It's just like the original portal, with the voice of glados and everything, I don't know how they did it because I'm sure she says some things that were'nt in the original game. You also get to "escape" a bit too and get to discover a bit more of Aperture which I thought was cool.

Did get stuck a few times but was mainly a result of being stupid and not seeing a button or a piece of wall that I could portal. Once you get the hang of the ceiling to floor freefall trick to build up loads of momentum its not really too hard.

It's ok it's ok! I figured it...It just seemed really odd how I did it but hey.

Can't remember where I got too last night, I can play that game seemlessly for hours...It's ace.

this is really cool, doesn't have a 3rd party feel to it at all

just feels like advanced portal maps

thanks Lysander

i wish valve would put as much effort into developing this as they do with TF2!

Damn tiscali's traffic shaping which stop steam from working during peak hours, means it takes many minuites to start in offline mode.

But these maps are pretty good, tend to be playing them for about half an hour at a time and dieing then stopping, real stop start gameplay which i tend not to enjoy doing in most games. Does anyone have any idea how long it will take to go through the whole thing? I've had about three or so sessions on it so far.

I'm bumping this topic for those who have finished the previous map pack.

I have located two more map packs which are of a high standard and don't have a third party feel. These packs follow one after another and are more difficult than the previous pack mentioned in this thread. However, if you're looking for something slightly more challenging you'll make it through.

The packs are here:

As stated do not expect to ace these in minutes, some of the sections took me half an hour each.. though most of the maps are a lot simpler than they first look.

Extra maps are unlocked once these are completed.

Im quite a way through the map pack first mentioned. Glados says its the last one, however I dont know if it actually is the last one. Its driving me mad.

EDIT: Just completed the map pack :D

Awesome ending :)

Revised the OP again. I came across BoxyTrixy the other day which is a fantastic map based around the concept of retrieving three weighted storage cubes from three separate areas. What was so impressive about the map was that when you thought you'd completed it it would keep pushing you and giving you extra things to consider. Ingenious.
