I believe cat c is up to 7.5 tonne and its on my licence but not later license's as standard. I was talking to an agency who said they were the same thing then spoke to another and they were not. The DVLA site is not clear and says to contact them for clarification.

From what the 2nd agency told me you can get a class 2 and a class 1 licence and apparently they are additional tests over the standard license.

Also briefly explain what a taco is ( I know it records speed and distance, but was once tested on it and wasn't expecting it ).

a taco is a small paper disk that records the vehicles speed for the entire duration of the journey.

they endup looking like a circular seismograph readout :p
you can get fired/punished for driving without having one in the machine.

Its actually a criminal offense to tamper with one and if you lose it you need to contact police.

There must be some people on this forum who can tell me if I need to take a test to drive class II. Ive been driving a 14-seat PCV with just cat C on my license.

I'm pretty sure Class C is up to 7.5 tonnes and was included on a car licence if issued before 1998.

Class 2 is for heavier rigid trucks and Class is artics. If you RMA the post and ask for it to be moved to motors R124/LA420 will probably pick up on it. He's a font of all knowledge trucking related.

Class C and Class 2 are the same thing, HGV Licences that regular car drivers do not hold without an extra test.

Briefly, a Tachograph (Tacho) is what records your driving hours, speed etc as per the European Drivers Hours rules & regs etc etc

7.5 ton is Class C1 anything heavier falls under Class C which is the old HGV2 Class C+E is the font that I drink from ;) - The old HGV Class 1. :)

I will happily return to this thread later (when I'm at home) and give you a bit more detail on Tachographs etc. :)

If your licence has Class C on it as mine does then theres no reeason why you can't switch to driving a class 2, a small PCV Bus / coach usually is based on a Class 2 chassis, the difference being the body. :)
