Career in the Forces? (IT Related)

Do you know exactly what you need to take with you? Just in case they haven't told you it all :p

I'm in the process of filling out the mean counter terrorism form, it is horrible :\

I flew through that test, but I'm guessing the inhouse test is a lot harder.

It is quite a lot harder!

Begbie you'll need your passport number, birth certificate number, national insurance number and NHS number.

Just remembered though, that section might be part of what they tear off and send you away with, to be filled out when you return for the aptitude tests. It probably is, but it wouldn't hurt taking all your ID and reference information anyway.

just observation & inter service banter tbh... yes I'm fully aware that they are not 'civvies' though they certainly are more like 'civvies' than the army or navy

Fair one, what cap badge are you (obviously you don't need to share that info, just curious, again).

Zefan, Begbie; How's the process going, are you both looking at ICT still?

So is ICT the same trade as TCO/ TC techs and that tradegroup 4 mess around?

How come you guys didn't go for an aircraft trade too?

I think I remember someone saying in this thread that you can re-trade in the armed forces. Its not strictly true in the RAF. You can re-trade from a technical trade to a non technical trade if you wish. You can't re-trade from a technical trade to another technical trade though.

Ironically, after calling the RAF civvies in uniform, I'm now actually also a civvie in uniform. (Previously served in an infantry unit now still serving as a reservist in a different unit.)

Yep, one and the same, was CIS, now rebranded as ICT, because recruitment was pants and ICT is a term familiar to schooleavers.

Thought this required a *BUMP* anyone in here had any more intersting news on their apps?

Thinking of joining as an Engineer or possibly ICT, though the more I read about the ICT Specialist role, the less enthused I am...

saved me having to search - had my interview today, went good, only crit i got was that i was overly confident.
Medical on fri.

dunno, I knew everything he'd asked me and iv waited over a month for the interview so my demons have long been confronted about it.
I can come across as arrogant sometimes but I dont think I did in the interview, as im sure if I had that he would have just said I seemed quite arrogant about certain things.
Passed my medical on friday:) Think a few people failed for colourblindness, didnt realise a 3rd of people fail the medical.
Just got my fitness left to do now, did a practice run other day in streets and did 2km in 8min 45 which was good. Think ill run at a slower pace next time :)

That's my 2.4km pace :D

When are you booked in for the PJFT?

I can't wait to get my starting dates! Should be any day now.

what sort of things do they check for exactly in the medical, is there a list somewhere?

Any serious conditions/allergies you have, that your joints move properly, eyesight, hearing, peak flow, your BMI, blood pressure, a urine test and the cough test :p

i had bruised ribs so my flow cough thing was proper painful :D

Zefan did you get the old pants down trick? they listen to your heart etc and then prod ** stomach slowly till they get to your boxers, then pull em down to check you are all there.. i thought it was hilarious due to the prodding being somewhat comparable to foreplay or something haha.

Yep exactly the same, asked me to cough when he got to the very bottom of my stomach, then made sure I was a full man :p

haha, its funny isnt it, you know fine well half the stuff is pointless but its just used as a foreplay kinda thing.

My knees/ankles didnt even click/pop when he was bendin my joints like, haha. theyr usually BAD.

Just waiting on your start day now?

Finally got a day off work, they should open weekends :p

Got talking to the Sargent, filled in the applications and got bits to fill in just now. Back in next week for the altitude tests.

Unfortunately as didn't have a 3/c or above in a science based subject they are going to put in for an educational wavier with the HND to back it up. He seemed confident that it should be ok though.

Fairly crapping it for next week, he did say the examples are much easier than the real tests. But well certainly be doing my best!
