F-22 Will Be At RIAT 2008

Any more people going to Fairford? Thinking of going tomorrow. Only about 45 mins from where I live.

This may sound like a stupid question, but will it be possible to get a good view of the planes without grandstand tickets? I'm guessing I won't get a good view of landing / takeoff though.

the misses saw the Vulcan flying at Farnborough yesterday :) will be doing it flightpath test so it looks like its all ready for RIAT :D

you should be able to find a place to sit/stand outside the grandstand that will have a reasonable view, but your right takeoff/landing might be slightly harder to see.

I'm there tomorrow. Can't wait. Airbus A380 flying too.

Saturday tickets are only available in advance now (none on the gate), so don't turn up Saturday if you don't have a ticket. See the RIAT website for more info.

Yup. Don't just turn up though, get an e-ticket first or you'll be turned away.

Depends how persistant you are. There's the crowdline (standing room only), but everyone else knows about that too. As long as you haven't hidden behind the stall for some purveyor of quality merchandise, you'll see most of the display work anyway - but miss out on the takeoffs/landings. That's probably what I'll do.

So guess what I saw fly over my house today, not one, not two, but three F-22s trailing right behind and almost underneath a tanker, which I was told they need to in UK airspace due to the small radar cross section of the F-22.

Stealth aeroplanes have small, detachable radar 'drags' (I can't remember the actual term) in order to make them visible to civilian radar. Escort is unnecessary.

I think it was a fuel tanker that came over with them so they could come across the Atlantic non-stop.

Weather looks like it should be ok. Light showers early afternoon possible, that's all.

Sorry If this has already been posted, but I thought a lot of you guys would want to know so you don't end up going there and finding out it isn't on.

Due to the unusually heavy rainfall during the past 72 hours, a decision has been made by the organisers of the Royal International Air Tattoo at RAF Fairford in Gloucestershire to cancel the airshow on Saturday, July 12.

Sorry to bring the bad news.:(

hi guys, we are thinking of going on sunday, but haven't got tickets yet. Not sure which one i should be looking at buying.

The grandstand ticket or just an admission ticket?? Grandstand says it doesn't give access to the airshow?!?

Fairford was open for Park & View today. Sadly I had to leave before the F-22's flew out at 15:00, got this photo though. :)

A real shame that it was cancelled both days :(

I wasn't going to go anyway as I had far too much to do and the weather would have made it nowhere near as enjoyable as it has been the last 2 times I've been, but I really feel for the enthusiasts that planned to go. It's such a big year too :(

Can't wait for the 100 year celebrations, I should get to see that from the inside :D

To be fair the weather wasn't bad. There was the odd shower but I think most of it was sunny or at worst high level cloud. About the same as last year then.

It's just last weeks' weather that did for it. A months' rain in one day certainly won't help.
