Because for ages now everything on it has annoyed me. I donated it to my niece and now find I just don't have time to watch anyway - there are far better things to be doing. Seriously, if you don't watch it for a while you will come to realise next time that you do that is it inane drivel designed to pacify, indoctrinate and manipulate you and, more importantly to them, make you buy stuff. I really despise TV now.*
*Except for rugby matches where I am able to watch them down the pub in a civilised social environment.

The channel does not exist to air the ads though, it merely uses them as funding (unless there is an alternative source ie tax payers money for bbx)
It makes no difference to ITV whether you go buy a My little pony the ad is aired the money is in their pocket.
AS for the pacifying, I honestly don't think that people would go on rampages because Corrie was cut off. Are you honestly saying a group of people sat down and said lets pacify the people with old fashioned melodrama?
Or is it more likely a bunch of executives sat down and said, sooooo what shall we sick on the tele "well drama's have worked since the birth of the stage" and they continue to because people like to watch them and thus generate more money for them

I particularly liked the advert for Big Brother in the middle of the programme where they were dancing around dressed as angels.

The classic Roman quote was about bread and circuses. Nowadays, TV has replaced the Roman circuses and has a stronger effect because it's far more common.
It's not allowed in Islam, so I don't know what english muslims you're on about. Never in my 22 years have I heard of it happening to anyone besides some people in Africa
It's only been 27 years since one of the most influential Muslims in the world issued a formal edict stating that it was required by Islam. That decision wasn't formally overturned until less than a year ago. So although it probably shouldn't be allowed in Islam, it was. There is also a statement that it is an honour for women, although I haven't been able to trace whether or not that is in the hadith and, if so, how contested (or not) it is. So there are links to Islam.
It's worth noting that cutting off part of a boy's genitals should also be forbidden by the same argument - it's changing God's creation, which is forbidden in Islam. Really forbidden, even for animals, let alone humans. You aren't even allowed to notch a cow's ear. Yet cutting off part of a boy's penis is almost universally seen as allowed by Islam and usually seen as required by Islam, despite the fact that it also is not stated in the Koran and appears to be forbidden by it.

Incidentally, what do Muslims here think about whipping someone with 100 lashes (obvious torture, possibly fatal) for sex outside of marriage or otherwise without formal religious approval? It's the standard and required punishment in Islam, according to the Koran.
