Can I make Ford pay for my paintwork? (chipping Focus ST)

ok ok its going to get dr colorchipped then washed properly and waxed properly.

ALRIGHT??? HAPPY NOW!!

jesus, don't have a massive go at me!

:)

lol im not, if i spent as much time and effort on cleaning myself than i did cleaning my car i wouldnt be single......

.....but i love shiney cars :p

so can someone give me a list of products I need to buy to sort this (excluding the dr colorchip) waxes/shampoos etc?

Try and keep it as cheap as possible for a good result :)

Why should Ford pay for it? The paint quality isn't as good as a Bentley but then the price is much less as well.

Stonechips are one of those things..
Have to say I agree with this.

43k mile 06 plate mass produced car driven almost exclusively on motorways - you have to expect that level of paintwork damage from those circumstances I'm afraid.

EDIT: Beating a dead horse somewhat

Fox is right, paint is softer these days than it used to be. Welcome to the world of water based paint.

With 43k on the clock, and most of it motorway miles you wouldn't have a leg to stand on with a manufacturer.

don't worry mate, keep hitting it, I'm sure it will get up.

All the chips that are showing black below are in actual fact showing the plastic bumper the white bits are primer. If you try to spray it yourself it will happen again because to paint plastic components you have to mix a plasticiser with the primer which is an adhesion promoter, at sometime you must have seen a car with large amounts of paint missing from bumper or mirrors thats what happens when you dont use plasticiser if you love the car that much get it proffesionally painted and it will look fantastic again. I asked my mate who has owned a car body repair shop for 30 yrs and he said to paint bumper and bonnet and blend onto both wings should cost approx £180 thats in glasgow anyway.. Have fun Holbay.

get it sorted and get a protective film installed. You have no right to have a go at ford in this case.

yeah I've come round the the "don't start a fight" thing.

Although in previous retail positions I have seen lots of people get free stuff they really really didn't deserve by arguing and god knows I can argue :)

Car looks awful and at some point I reckon you could have had a case with Ford, but you have let it go far too long that it'd be near impossible to distinguish genuine damage from unexpected damage.
Don't bother with the colourchip. If you can afford to buy a brand new focus and put 43k on it in 18mths then surely a couple of hundred to get the job done properly is not too much to pay out.

As to ford paint being inferior, sure it's not fantastic, but I have had fords with well over 100k with barely a fraction of that level of damage.

fair point but I get a car allowance and a fuel card so its not as clear cut as that.

Although you're right, I'm not going to experience destitution from spending £200 on repairs. I guess where I need to get to is understanding all the small things i can do like wax/glaze/shields etc to stop it from happining again in another 12 months.

There is a lot of truth in the comments about driving style - if you follow the car in front too closely you'll pick up far more stonechips on your bumper than you would if you followed at a safer distance, the closer you are the quicker the stones are going when they hit your car and the lower down they are.

Thing is you are right, it shouldn't have got that bad. And a good bodyshop should spray it up so that it won't do. Waxes/glazes won't really help against stone chips. Wax is only microns thick, it offers zero defense against paint collision damage.

Tell me about it, I don't suffer from a lot of chipping as I always fall back and don't tailgate but had 3 windscreens replaced is the same ammount of months last year, I could swear in every case I saw the stone rise of the ground and home in to my screen lol.
