All New Summer 2008 Transfer Merry Go Round/Rumour Mill

I am excited at the potential Berba signing.
It's true that it's not without it's risks - his attitude has been poor at times (although perhaps people are exaggerating it here) and his playing style doesn't immediately look ideally compatible with our system buuut..
He has a lot of ability and at times has looked amazing. if he was to really give his best and sort that attitude out, I think he will quickly become a big fan favorite and probably for the first time since that opening season for Spurs would be enjoying his football again.
Having him available with/instead of rooney/tevez is certainly better than having no option, which is what we have had at times for a while now.

Spurs fans tend to refute the lazy tag, hopefully thats the case. The problem is we dont own tevez and if we dont and hes on the bench we never will. He then becomes a quite expensive loan deal.

Dont be ****ing silly, he walked on the pitch and motivated everyone

Ive heard countless times how he used to stay behind training with the kids and getting them to train properly and how many times have you heard players talk about what an inspiration he was, people like Beckham, the Nevilles, Roy Keane, Fergie, Scholes......etc

He single handedly won the title for us just by turning up

Absolutely 100% correct. No discussion will be entered in to.

yes he's not bad but £20m is taking the ****, we don't need him that much

Torres gets injured in the first game of the season. We've got Voronin, Kuyt and Babel.

I think £20m can be easily justified for such a good player who, as mentioned, is proven in the league.

His signing is more important than that of Gareth Barry, it's not like we're short of quality in the centre of midfield.

I believe both will be signing anyway.

twice as good as Crouch ?

£20m, for Robbie Keane

I don't think we'll be paying £20m for him, closer to £17m and with a few £m of that in add-ons too.

However regardless of that, it's still a big fee but as has been mentioned, we're paying a premium because he's a proven prem player. I disagree about us not needing him that much and spending the money elsewhere; Torres is our only striker we can rely on for goals and if he were to get a serious injury we'd be in big trouble.

I think Keane fits the bill perfectly as he can play alongside Torres but also in place of Torres should he get injured. I just hope we go for a winger now and then come back to Barry should we have the cash, but don't think that's going to happen :(
twice as good as Crouch ?
Maybe not twice as good but he's certainly better and more time on his contract too. We struggled without Torres last year as we simply had no pace up top, Keane can help put that right should Torres get injured.

twice as good as Crouch ?

As mentioned, Crouch's contract was run down and he clearly wanted out.

I do think Keane is better than Crouch. Whilst Crouch is a very good player, he can be really poor in certain games and Keane is by far, more consistent.

£20m is a big fee when you consider we got Torres for £1m more. However, prices of players are going up quite significantly as of late and £20m seems to be becoming the new £10m-£12m.

BaZ, I think a winger would be a very good idea but I would think Keane and Barry will be about as excited as we get. Babel on the left wing could work (although I see him as more of a striker) but he needs to be a lot more confident in himself. You can tell he's struggling mentally in terms of belief but hopefully that will come.

Interestingly Levy didn't have much to say about Redknapp/Pompey and their tapping of Kaboul. I guess he wasn't worried about the reaction of the fans to that

We've been desperate for a right winger ever since Rafa joined. For one reason or another we've missed out on the likes of Simao, Alves and Mancini but like you say i think Barry and Keane may be it for us this summer (unless we have more cash than we know of (doubt it)). Ive got no problem with us going after a striker before a winger for the reasons i mentioned above but im not sure what it is with Rafa and CM's. Benitez seemed to have made his mind up a while back to sell Alonso and bring in Barry which is fair enough (although i don't agree) but it now looks like Alonso won't be going yet we're still going to be after Barry and seemingly at the expence of a winger.

Ipswich signed Lisbie this evening and should hopefully be completing the transfers of Rudi Skacel and Richard Wright on Monday... we're putting together a half decent team for the coming season and should be around the top 4, hunting around for automatic promotion spots IMO.

He is a sulky little bitch that's the problem, he may knock loads in for us but when the going gets tough he strops about and is a lazy **** to boot

Just like RvN you mean (at least at the end of his career with Man Utd)

Berbatov is at present a one season wonder

with two good seasons at spurs I wonder how you work that one out :)

Agree completely until the irrational use of some american term that suggests that we somehow swap footballers.

Im sure you realised I meant transfers :)

Lads, I know we all love Crouchy, but come, Keane is without a doubt twice as good, he can head the ****ing ball for starters.

In the last 2-3 seasons, we created a shed load of chances, unfortunately we had Kuyt and Crouch upfront, so we couldnt really capitalise on chances, Torres showed last season what a semi decent finisher can do with chances, and I think Keane can give us another dimension, play out wide or uptop with Torres, and score the goals.

Crouch was never the right the signing for us, you will never see players like Crouch,in a EPL winning side tbh.

I see where you are coming from but personally think SAF is going to sign him - he did state the money is already in place several months ago

Even if we dont, the CL and league win are compensation enough I reckon (even without considring anything we win 2008/09), but I still reckon he will be signed permanently no matter what

He'll do well for us if 23 goals is average.

Exactly my thoughts earlier - and I cant see him playing the same amount of games for Man Utd and scoring less

Thats a crazy amount of money for Kaka.

SSN have his agent saying he's desperate to go there too. What is it with Chelsea buying so many CM's? If their team is weak in any area it's up top.
