Gym Gloves and Protein Shakes

Hey kittenscake, please post a frontal topless photo, perhaps even pull a most muscular. Mr Chong please do the same. I will then proceed to point out precisely the difference between being a proper bodybuilder and being an "ergh egg whites no way" bodybuilder. Lets face it, if you lined up the people on this board who use bulk unflavoured, next to the maximuscle crew, with few exceptions you would see a trend.

What's the point of going unflavoured if you hate the taste and are almost or actually sick whilst drinking it? If you have the choice then why wouldn't you choose the better option for you? To prove your 'manliness' or commitment? Don't be stupid.

The point in going unflavoured is so that you can flavour it yourself and if need be add as much sweetner as you wish. Not to make you sick or manly, but to have the option to have a shake as you want it for once, not just another strawberry/banana shake from the 5kg tub.

The point has nothing to do with the flavour of the whey. You're missing the ever so subtle but extremely poignant fact that CW was driving at. A hardcore bodybuilder doesn't complain, he just gets on with it, through sweat blood and tears - and that's a typical workout for me. People who put their all into it, and dont' just do it for the sake of doing it. If you saw the dedication someone like CW and to a certain extent, me, put into watching our diets, working out so hard it near kills us, and the effort we go through to improve ourselves, we dont' whinge and whine because of our hands hurting, or whey tasting bad - not because we're more manly necessarily, but because the effort we're putting in is so much greater than the inconvenience or displeasure of the other aspects of training that it's not something we'd even consider whinging about.

in short - we're so focused we don't really worry about our hands or the flavour of our shakes.

Edit: You know what, i spent 15 minutes trying to find the right words and it still came out wrong, so im just not going to reply.

It's not quite what I meant. I meant that there are 2 different level of people who train. Those that take it seriously such as yourself and many others, and those who step beyond the reasons and life/eat/breathe it. We're just at 2 different intensities and levels. we're at a level where we don't really care if there's an "easy" way out, or a nice tasting shake etc... as for us it's not really about whether it tastes nice, we're more concerned about getting the nutrition and concentrating on our body development. :) Similarly with gloves to use the other example - for us it's just not an important issue how soft our hands are. Like buying all the "elite" gym gear - for most of us we just use what's functional. The only equipment I have is a tricep rope and a dipping belt. Sweaty t-shirts and torn tracksuits are all I need! :p

Bleh, i know, depending which of my many edits you read on that post i could have meant anything. This thread is starting to sound a bit high handed though. If someone handed me a shake that tasted great and did the same thing id take it, but at the same time if someone told me to drink this and it would half my recovery times but it tasted like raw sewage, hell id probably drink that too. I dont know what that means, Monday morning has already got me ****** off.

hehe don't worry about it, I think I know what you're getting at. And to a certain extent I know what you mean. But I just think some of us have a different psychology or approach to training. :)

You arent wrong. My god, i wouldnt be having crap like EAAs in my shakes (these stink!!) if i was worried about the taste :D

More than anything, as i have gone on about at length in another thread, its about the IMPLICATIONS of moaning about your hands of your shake flavour. For example, if you take such a severe disliking to something as plain as plain whey, chances are you hate other 'odd' things like vegetables, fish, you know nutritious stuff ;)

It's a type of person, a person who will never push hard enough, a person without the drive a person seeking comfort in an inherently hard persuit. Its like training to be a boxer but avoiding actual matches to save your face from a beating. It's wanting to be a bodybuilder but not having the soul for it.

Whilst there will be exceptions, and heck im a large proponenet of flavoured pre-blended whey being perfectly good if used correctly, there is something undeniably consistent about the people who use bulk unflavoured protein, even on this small board, they do well.

Ah ok, that clarified it a bit for me, i see what your getting now. And what your saying is probably true for nearly all things in life, people who moan about everything all the time, or the sort of person that wont even eat fish in a resturant - id say are generally less successful than people who are willing to just get on and do it.

But i think its wrong to talk in absolutes, there must be lots of people out there (i assume) that approach bodybuilding in a different way and still get the results they want.

Well again it was just an example of the sort of frame of mind/outlook/approach i think Ultra was trying to explain.

I'm pretty sure Morba was just joking and knows fine what you mean, he even put a winking smiley in or would have if he didn't insist on using square brackets instead of the round ones that this board uses. :p

haha, yeah, my bad! i seem to use square brackets far too much!!

Tbh I have found that most bars are too small for me to grip comfortably, therefore I use gloves when doing some exercises. But then again I have massive hands :p
