Argh - I saw a scamera van up on a bridge a bit late coming down the M6 earlier (doing about 80 indicated and I know it's not far off correct) - I couldn't brake hard because someone was close behind :(

Are the cameras on these bridges usually front facing or rear? I didn't see any cameras up on the bridge, just a van with livery and some guy in a fluorescent jacket sitting inside it. Fingers crossed they were targetting the rear because I'd slowed down enough by then or they were looking at the other side...

Quite annoying as that was probably the only time I'd gone more than a smidgeon over 70 (driving 320 miles and trying to be economical - Ø 40.3mpg for the whole journey!)

14 days of stress ahead :(

Usually after, you should be ok if you came out the bridge doing 70. What side of the bride was it sitting at?

As I was driving towards the bridge, it was parked up on the side closest to me... Not sure what significance that has. I thought they usually had cameras facing out the back of those vans, and I didn't see anyone standing up there pointing a radar gun etc... odd.

Almost certainly front facing then.

Ah balls... I'll see how it goes and hope that I don't get a letter. If I do, how likely is it that I'd get offered the course (never been in any trouble for anything, ever, and no previous tickets etc)...?

Do they not go by that 10% error margin anymore or do they just do you for anything over dead 70?

so ive been informed by a mate who does speed cameras ( i know i hate him for it )

its + 10% + 2mph

so 79 would have been safe

considering speedos are set 10% under what you think you are doing that would be 72mph

therefore clear :)

Cheers chaps. I'll let you know what happens. TBH it's my own stupid fault for (a) Following the "flow" and not checking my speed, and (b) not adjusting the SatNav camera warnings beyond 450 yards... that's no warning at all at 70+

If you were following the flow of traffic doing roughly the same speed then they would have to issue tickets to all the drivers doing that same speed. I guess they could though. You didn't see someone in a BMW flying past you in the fast lane did you? :P

It was a Z4 right behind me funnily enough and I was trespassing on to the BMW lane myself (there seem to be loads of Z4s around Cumbria way incidentally) :p

A lot of people were doing well above 70 so maybe there's safety in numbers - not sure whether they pick and choose targets or whether it's all automated..

i went past one which was facing me and I was going 83 indicated, this was about 3 months ago, havent heard anything so youll most likely be fine
