HTC Diamond or iPhone 3G

Had my Diamond for a week now, upgraded from a Orbit so familiar with Windows Mobile etc, but feel let down by the Diamond.

Use an iPod touch for my MP3's and the interface on that is so much slicker than the Diamonds.

Upside of the Diamond, much better camera and GPS and the form factor is much smaller. Though seems very slow to do things, though have not applied the recommended tweaks yet.

Upside of the iPhone, well you get an excellent MP3 player built in and the interface is much slicker. iPhone though is very basic on phone functions e.g. no forward of SMS.

One thing that chokes me with the iPhone is the 18 month minimum contract, I'll never sign up to one of them, way to long for my liking.

If I had my choice again, well I'd stay with the Diamond, but if Apple manage to sort out the GPS for the next version and O2 provide a 12 month contract then I might switch at next renewal.

Taff

Don't even give it a seconds thought, apply the tweaks, then decide whether you like your diamond. it really makes a difference

Can you link to the reccommended tweaks?

from my post in the main diamond thread:

Followed the first 2 tweaks in this thread:

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=398265

"1. Boost TFL3D Performance --> Using Advanced Config, change File system cache to 8mb and file system filter cache to 131072

2. Boost TFL3D Performance --> HKLM\System\Storagemanager\Fatfs and change key Cachesize from 16384 to 32768"

You need to download and install the advance config tool from XDA and then the tweaks themselves are a 1 min job

Works a treat haven't bothered with any of the others yet.

I had the diamond for 2 weeks and had windows mobile devices for 5 years previous.

The diamond for me was terrible. I put on the latest roms etc but it was still a pain to use. The screen although very nice just seemed too small to use as a decent PDA.

Windows mobile just doesnt seem to have progressed. The flashy touchflo 3d interface is just a poor skin laid on top. It doesnt even link to your contacts!

The battery life was beyond a joke as well!

So.......I got an Iphone, what a revelation!! Amazing, apple should design all interfaces.

The capacitive multi touch screen on the Iphone is a joy to use, all phones should have this especially the diamond!

This is the 1st apple device I have owned.

but i thought the iphone lacks bluetooth, video recording, and MMS. welcome to 1999 ? so what it looks pretty, but to lack BASIC functions? pfft.

You forgot copying and pasting, and having to "Jailbreak" the phone to make it run third party software. Your reasons, and the two I mentioned, are the reasons I wouldn't touch an iPhone with a 10ft. barge pole.

Forget the tweaks, flash a 1.93 based custom ROM with the registry tweaks already applied.

Or install "Diamond TF3D Config (0.6.5)" which speeds up the Touch interface. The shipped 1.37 ROM Touch interface is slow. In the 1.93 ROMs it's much better.

I'd never give up my Kaiser... gotta love HSDPA... :D

Amazes me how people get excited about 3G - it's still relatively slow and hardly a new technology :/
