Recommend me a £30 heatsink for Q6600

I have cut myself numerous times on the fins of TRUE's they should come with warnings
What are you fitting the heatsink with? your Tongue? :p

Not sure how anyone can cut themselves on a TRUE?

Yep is works really well with low rpm fans, making for a nice quiet machine. :) Lower temps than my TRUE also...
Interesting to hear the Xigmatek S1283 performs better than a TRUE? I guess it depends how the heatsinks were fitted and what fan (if any) was being used with the TRUE?

I heard a few people give this newish heatsink a thumbs up so will have to check it out, I'm aware the Xigmatek heatpipes touch the CPU IHS directly but I'm a bit sceptical that makes so much difference as to perform better than the Thermalright heatsink?

Is it me or does the Xigmatek S1283 look like a carbon copy of the thermalright 120 ultra

I've found Xigmatek performs better with low airflow (i'm using a 600rpm fan), but the TRUE is designed for high airflow, and I've found the TRUE performs better when the fans are 1300rpm or more... So it depends on what you're after, silence of speed. ;)

Sort of related - if planning to replace the fan in the Tuniq Tower, would it be better to get the Noctua NH-U12P instead (as the cost is similar if the Noctua stock fan is already good) ?

I have a TT but i think the Xigmatek is the new low budget winner. True is good but you will need to lap it.

You won't need to lap it, it's designed to be bowed at the bottom to allow for more pressure on the part of the cpu that requires most heat dissipation; the middle.

A lot of people I know that have the TRUE say its real performance is when you do lap it, otherwise its very similar to the TT/Xig

Managed to pickup a 2nd hand TRUE for £20 !

This is not the case, having had a number of TRUE I can say the bases were pretty much random (concave and convex)... and the warping of the base was caused by the attachment of the heatpipes and had nothing to do with heat dissipation.. All of the TRUE I have used have shown a significant increase in performance when lapped.. over 10c difference in load temps in one case

I brought the tuniq tower on the recommendation of load's of people on overclocker's.

The tower is very easy to fit and i have never looked back since buying one.

I have a ds3 board and having the back plate on with the thumb screws holding the tuniq in place is a lovely design.

I was actually putting my pc component's into another case(p190) so for it wasn't a problem taking the mobo out and putting the back plate on.

Well worth the money more the tuniq imho.

I replced the stock fan with a sharkoon 2000 120mm fan and it's really quiet now.

The Tuniq seems very good value considering its results! :)

I would be interested to hear from someone that has used both a TRUE and a Tuniq to see how they compare.

The price difference between the two is noticable especially as most people will need to add the cost of a 120mm fan to the Thermalright.

The only heatsinks I've used on the LGA775 platform are the Arctic Freezer 7 Pro, INTEL stock, TRU and TRUE.

Both the Theramright heatsinks are great and for me personally dead easy to fit (and refit). The ease of taking the TRUE off to replace CPU is one of the reasons I rate it so highly (as well as its performance).

I do chuckle when I read people filled with dread or hesistant to remove their 3rd party heatsink! :p

I bought a Thermalright Ultra-120 Extreme and a Zalman CNPS9700-NT for two different builds.
The Thermalright was easy to fit, quite ( with a Sharkoon 120mm fan) and does a great job of cooling my system.

The Zalman on the other hand whilst easy to fit, is really load in comparison.

I would recommend the Ultra to anyone who has a full tower.
