What sequels ruined a film franchise?

Surprised Indianna Jones hasn't been mentioned yet. I thought the latest was a good addition to the series but an awful lot of people thought it was complete rubbish.

It was one of my first thoughts on reading this thread title. If I'm being fair it isn't that bad a film provided I don't consider it as an Indy film but where is the fun in being fair - it's the worst thing ever and ruined the rest of my life. ;)

The story in the matrix is so good it overshadows everything else in the movie. Its a film where good acting isn't needed to become engrossed because the movie itself is so mind boggling.

I don't mind the Matrix but I wouldn't call the story particularly good or groundbreaking - it's quite an old tale/idea (or rather several combined) with good special effects. And Matrix 2 & 3 were really bad, even in comparison to the first.

Also Starship Troopers.

My friend saw the new one and it's apparently rather good.

Other great franchise killers:

Blade 3
Son of the Mask
Charlie's Angels 2
Ocean's 12 (almost)
Chronicles of Riddick
Cruel Intentions 2
Blair Witch 2

Oh come on, The Matrix is almost universally accepted as being amazing by people of all ages. Yes I'm 20 too, but please, my 50 year old parents also loved it. Of course you're entitled to your opinion but calling someone wrong because they were a 'child' is quite unnecessary, patronising and quite frankly makes you sound archaic.

The Matrix was overhyped more like. I groaned when he flipped the phone, a advert for Nokia if I ever saw one (and several kids bought the same phone after the movie release) I have every right to say a child cannot have a wide enough experience in movies, and I'm glad I don't follow the crowd.. As another poster said it's a mixture of plots that have been done before, just add lots of CGI stiff acting and job done.

Matrix 2 and 3.

Agreed, also Nightmare on elm street 2.

You were a child when matrix came out so have lower expectations, a bit of CG/action and rate it as excellent movie.

The idea of the matrix was great. I think Keanu just made me fall asleep with his wooden acting, which in turn ruined the movie.

He's 20 now though, unless you have to be 30 to offer an opinion?

Our judgement is often clouded by sentimentality... there are films, books and many, many songs that I like because, as a child, I liked them. If I was to see/read/listen to them now, as an adult, then my opinion would be vastly different in many cases. These films, books and songs, however, remind me of being a child, when life was carefree.

Some sequels that haven't been mentioned yet...

Jaws 3D
Blues Brothers 2000
Caddyshack 2
Rocky V

haha guess none of you seen the sequel to the "War of the worlds"

im telling you the god honest truth i would rather sniff the trye of a moving lorry then watch that again, and i only watched 10 mins of it!
