Very happy with the signing of Keane.

He works hard, gives you his all in every game. Has a very good proven track record for scoring goals, has great ability off the ball and at assists. I think he will make a very good partner for Torres, the 2 should work well together.

Now what we need is a high quality left back and right back.

If we can get those, then I would be happy with:

Reina

new wing back , Carragher , Agger , new wing back : Skrtel/Hyppia as cover

Kuyt, Gerrard, Mascherano, Babel : Alonso, Lucas, Benayoun as cover

Torres, Keane : Pacheco/Kuyt as cover

I'd settle for that, given the finances and time left for season start

I just don't see the signing of Keane as a we mean business to win the prem move though It's more a ah well we'll buy him and finish 3rd or 4th.
They should have gone all out for Villa.

i disagree - it's another goal threat. lets face it, without a goal threat from anywhere else other than torres and gerrard it's not that hard to shut us down atm. with keane at least there will be another option, he can either play him on his own and rest torres in 4 5 1, or play him behind torres in a 4 4 1 1 kind of thing.

keane will be like a luis garcia kind of guy, a player that can unlock 2 banks of 4 camped on the edge of the box, a little bit of magic. quite a good signing i think.

£20m for Keane is not expensive

I agree - Keane is a bargain at £20m

I wish we'd have laid down £20m on him instead of chasing bloody Berbatov for 2 years for ~£25m! I can only guess Ferguson and his own stubbornness are what stopped us going for him over their past history.

Why do we need three nearly identical players upfront - thats ridiculous

Keane isnt an out and out striker, he plays much better behind someone ....just like Tevez and Rooney

We deserve to give Rooney a decent run with a proper striker to play off, only that way will we ever get the best out of him, Keane ISNT that option at all

from BBC:

You missed out the funniest part:

quote from the BBC:

Manchester United winger Ryan Giggs has admitted Sir Alex Ferguson's hairdryer treatment still leaves him quaking in his boots - but says he is still more scared of his mum. (The Sun)

Just made me laugh out loud

wonder how people will react if skrtel and agger get a good partnership going. Was massivley impressed with skrtel last year. ime will tell if 19mil for keane is high. Either way he has the goals in him

Andy Johnson's going for £13m and Keane's certainly worth an extra £7m imo.

Gotta agree with that, if Johnson is worth £13m Keane is definitely worth another £7m on top.

Keane is a very good forward, and I have no doubt that he'll be a very good signing for you.

News is that he'll be wearing the number 7 shirt, at least that what I heard on BBC Radio 1.

Daniel Levy is stiring it up again, is this guy really doing anyone elses head in at the moment? After slating us for creating a media hype and tapping up Berbatov... he's now saying he didn't approve of the Keane/Liverpool transfer and that Rafa was tapping him up.

What a tool :-/

A random figure from that link, a total of £58m has been spent just on transfer fees for Robbie Keane during his career. The highest combined amount of transfer fees ever for a British player. A nice little achievement :)

Keane is not better than Villa by a long shot. I do like him as a player but I just can't see him playing at the highest level (by that I mean league challengers)

Should fit in well at Liverpool then, they are hardly league challengers are they.

As for Villa being better than Keane, it depends which way you look at it.

Villa is probably better than Keane in La Liga because he is proven there, whereas Keane is better than Villa in the Premiership because he is proven there.

At International level Keane is Irelands alltime top scorer with 33 goals which out does Villas records for a far superior side with only 18 goals.

He didnt agree with the transfer, whats wrong with that? At the end of the day Levy said he didnt want to sell Keane but his hands were tied.

Liverpool were tapping him up, they made a public apology for the way they went about their business and compensated Spurs for that (an admission of guilt). As a result of their tapping up Keane submitted a transfer request, therefore Levy decided to sell him and build a team from players who want to play at WHL.

I dont consider him coming out and explaining why he had to sell Keane to the fans and giving his opinion of the move as any different to any other manager or chairman publically coming out and slating other clubs for their pursuit of players (ala Utd).

Where's this public apology then?

Keane is a much more intelligent footballer, a thinkers footballer if you will.
What has Villa ever done really? He reminds me a lot of Trezeguet, gets heaps of praise for no real reason. Sure he isn't a bad player, but he's certainly not as good as people like to believe - let us not forget, Milan Baros was the top scorer at the Euro's 4 years ago.

I'd take Robbie Keane over David Villa every day of the week.

fffs cant a team just not sell i mean keane signed a contract last season for 4 years
talking crap about he is happy as long as spurs want him he will stay for years
yeah right kiss my ass

I've watched him a lot over the last 2-3 years and I can see why there is so much hype around him. However, I think hes definitely more of an out and out front man when you see how often he plays up front by himself for Valencia, as opposed to Keane who will drop deep and help supply the goods for Torres and co. Villa does like to drift out to the wings a lot but Keane can do that as well if we need to. Keane is virtually the same age and is suited to the premiership and doesn't have to adjust his lifestyle at all. Plus getting Villa would have costed 7-8 million more.
