PS3 2.42 FW out

I would love them to sort out some sort of screenshot function that enables people to take ingame screenshots and save them. There is a scene from MGS4 that I have been after
for ages.

I wouldn't be suprised if all these small updates contain bits of home or the playTV software.

I know that 2.41 contained something to do with playTV, so I wouldn't be surprised if Sony were planning ahead to save humongous load on their download servers.

Much better for everyone to download in small chunks and piece it together at the PS3 end when it's all collected. Especially as home is bound to be several gig. Imagine everyone trying to download that come release.

Thats void as you download the whole firmware EVERY time. It's still 120odd meg.

and if you switch hard drives or something it's still there isn't it? So there can't be any home stuff if it takes up any kind of space.

FFVIII doesn't work on the PS3? What's wrong with it?

It does unless my eyes are very much mistaken
Running the platinum version, only just started on this one really though so haven't got very far.
The only bug I've seen is with FFIX- The rumble dies after a single battle :(

Platinum FFVIII here and it doesn't work on the latest firmware for me either. :(

Are you doing anything special to get yours working leezer? :p

Put it in and turned it on?!
I started on 2.41, never had any issues there either.
Upscaling is off (SDTV), but smoothing is on. The virtual memory card has various different saves on it, so not empty if that makes any odds.

Only thing I can suggest is to check for scratches; The PS3 seems to be more sensitive to these than the PS1/2.

Cheers

My GTA IV is still freezing fairly often, even with the latest patch and FW. I've also tried deleting game data and reinstalling!

Strange, I haven't had a single freeze after the patch, if you want to play singleplayer you can alwasy disable the internet connection before playing.

Don't hold your breath for a full software emulation implementation.

If playing PS2 games is that important, buy a PS2.

I reckon it will happen someday, not fully implemented as you say (with some games having problems and such) but it's pretty much going to happen one day or another. It will be a huge boost to the buyability of the console - many people factor in backwards compatibility when they think about which one to buy.

Last I heard, Sony has a team working to implement it in, but there's been no news updates or such in over a year.

Thread revival!

Do any games support music from the XMB yet?

Don't think so. The uptake is atrocious and I doubt we'll see many games with it as it takes up memory from the already small existing amount.
