which cable select to use 16 head or 32gig clip

i have got my hdd which i am gonna put a new os on. been told as its sharing an ide cable with the cdrom that it should be in the middle and set the jumpers on the hdd to cable select. there are two diagrams for this one is for 16 head and the other way sets it up for 32 gig clip. Which one do i use and what do both do?

Cable Select never took of as its a POS (feel free to go read on it).

You are supposed to put the fastest Device on the end of a Cable always even if on its own as the Master

Its also not advised to put a HDD on the same Channel with a Optical Drive.

Above is all FACT'S I can back up but it does not mean you cannot do the above.

Not time to go SATA ?.

half the time hdd + optical doesn't work and you have to ass around with a load of dodgy configs (apperently)

I only have 1 ide port on my new mobo as its geared up for sata but at the moment the outlay of the gpu, mobo and cpu i cannot afford to upgrade my hdd's
