21 The film.

Badly? They were mathematical geniuses who using their revolutionary techniques took millions of dollars.

Maybe the real life people whom the film was based on, certainly not the characters in the film though!

Ok so we need a subtle and unnoticeable way to signal that a table is 'hot', how about we stretch our arms behind our backs and cross wrists. Real sly, certainly no need to change in from casino to casino either!

(That last comment probably sounds like a sarcastic dig at you, it's directed solely towards the film-makers!)

i really liked the film, and you don't have to know the intrinsic details of what they are saying to understand their point, but the people who do, then it will be a bonus for them.

the movie was completely dumbed down for the average idiot to understand, successful counting is a lot more complex than just doing a running count.

movie had potential but it was too cliched, predictable and dumbed down.

i agree with this man, how you can give a film like that four stars is beyond belief, whats a one star if thats a four????

I went to watch it on release day and I have to say, I thoroughly enjoyed it. Being a fan of the TV series Las Vegas, I was intrigued to see the other side of card-counting. I am definitely buying it on DVD when it is released.

LOL

Just LOL

Adding, subtracting and ignoring does not equal mathematical genius.

I could teach a house wife who does the weekly shop and school run to count cards in less than 10 minutes.

The film 21 is very misleading (I watched it last night) any top dick and harry can count cards.

I wouldn't mind if you could give me some lessons then, hotshot.

Quit your trolling :p

Statistical probability being worked out on the fly, in your head, under pressure, is not 'easy'.

If it were, there would be far more instances of card counting taking place.

I'm not saying the movie is wholly accurate, but the system is definitely not as simple you debunk it to be.

Um

Card counting has been wide spread in blackjack since the 60s. Every can do it.

If you feel under pressure sitting at a table in a relaxed enviroment your either mental or fail at life

How is gambling at a table a "relaxed environment"? People do it for the exhilaration and excitement, and this brings with it stress and adrenaline rushes. Of course someone is going to be under pressure when betting significant amounts of money on odds usually stacked against you.

I'd seriously doubt that card counting can just be done by any person, as has already been said previously, if that was the case, a lot more people would be doing it and winning.

Have you ever been to a casino?

They are full of drunk people unwinding after work and having a flutter.

That is presumably a little bit different to playing professionally at Vegas where they are likely to have slightly better methods of detecting card counters and teams working to skin the casino than you will find at your local Stakis.

Counting cards by yourself for little more than your own amusement is not on the same scale as running a scam where you are taking hundreds of thousands from casinos and the risks are proportionately different.

Yes I have, and it was definitely not "full of drunk people unwinding after work and having a flutter". It was actually rather civilised. I didn't play at any of the tables but I watched some of the games going on and there were certainly a few fidgety people around. A few were relaxed, granted, but a lot looked rather uneasy when placing their bets. Most likely due to the possibility of losing.

Plus the fact that you are counting cards, which casinos don't like, would make the whole thing pressurised.

I go to vegas twice a year and everyone who goes there to gamble properly rather than lads night out or family holiday counts cards at blackjack.

the guy who published the book on card counting did it on his own to prove his theory. The mit guys just did it in a team. everyone knew there roll and stuck to a script. they did it on auto pilot.

i actually met one of them at the rio this year when wsop was on. Nice guy if not a big large.
