Good. I was all for signing him when the fee was around 18m but the reported 24m is a joke.

What a joke, greedy little get! Makes a load of noise about wanting to leave for a bigger contract and has now got himself a new contract and probably a pay rise which he hasn't justified! :mad:

They are taking the **** a bit, a good euros and he's now worth £24m? I know he was getting notice beforehand, but he's not really proven it in a decent league. He'll just sit and rot if they dont lower that price.

Liverpool ITKs seem to be suggesting that as soon as the Barry deal is done, we will be moving onto signing a top class winger (or striker who can play as a winger) and then that will be our business done. However, the winger will be dependant on Alonso being sold.

How can people say that the Russian League isn't a decent league?
Zenit and CSKA have both won the UEFA cup in recent seasons and they have a bunch of top players out in Eastern Europe.

Not really no, they seem to suggest the main winger target is one that's not being widely mentioned. I'm sure there's probably something solid behind the Riera/Downing/Silva links, but we may actually be in for a right sided winger if pennant is on the way out and we would then have Barry and Babel for the left.

As i expected

We should be after a winger first and then if the money is available then Barry.

edit: Just seen the post on RAWK and it seems more like an educated guess than any sort of insider knowledge.

I wouldn't say the Russian league is decent. They've had a couple of sides do well in a 2nd rate competition over the last few of years but the rest of their league is very ordinary.

I agree with Burned Alive, at 27 you'd have thought somebody would have taken a punt on Arshavin by now if he's all that he's made out to be. Zenit have slapped a huge price on him on the back of 1 tournement and the fact that they don't need the money, in reality i doubt he's worth half what's being asked.

Highly unlikely tbh. Barry still wants the move and Rafa is as adamant as ever that he's going to get him. It's been reported that we finally agreed a deal but it came 20 minutes after the deadline but by this time Villa and O'Neil wet themselves with excitement, thinking we've pulled out the deal and put out the statement saying the deal is off and now want Barry to hand in an official transfer request so that they don't look stupid.

If you dig around, it's hinted at by SL and also confirmed by Gedo, who I think knows a bit. I guess it's mostly speculation at this point anyway, but it sounds right.
