Ahh, I did not know that. Still though, tis £13 more expensive just for some weights you can shove in the bottom. Although I do like that electric blue skin...

I don't know that the £13 extra is just because of the weight, it also includes the ability to adjust DPI on the fly as well as adjusting the report rate (max of 1000, I think the report rate on the MX518 is probably 500) as well as a higher top DPI which may be a very good thing for some people... I personally have mine on 800DPI

MX510 + El Cheapo MS Wired Black Keyboard I got for £7 new and it is one of the best i've ever used

Currently using a Saitek Eclipse II and a Microsoft Habu. Dont know about anyone else but the G5/510/518 felt too small, the habu isnt much larger physically but is of a shape that means you arent having to lift your little finger up to stop it dragging across the mouse mat. Guess i just have unusually long fingers but have always liked the intellimouse/earlier razer shape.

As for the keyboard, it was about the most i considered spending on a keyboard at the time with a good solid feel and backlit keys with some media control functionality

Mouse mat is an everglide titan, its big and its smooth, what else is there to know (always preferred cloth to solid surface mats)

MX518 can do the on the fly DPI thing as well, and I've got my MX518 set to 1000 report rate using some tweaker tool thingy. DPI goes up to 1600 with MX518 compared to 2000 with the G5 so difference there isn't too great either - like you I've got mine set to 800DPI as well and I can't really see all that many situations where you need obscene DPI (over 800 and the like).

Saitek Eclipse keyboard. Reason - because it looks cool. I'd seen reviews where people raved about the 'feel' of it, but the selling point for me was it's looks. My next keyboard - will be another Eclipse.

Logitek MX510. I wanted the 518 because it suited my hand, but didn't like the grey colour of it. Preferred the blue of the 510. My next mouse - will be the G5 (though I'd be just as happy with another 510).

EDIT
After re-reading my answers, it appears I'm really shallow when it comes to mouse and keyboard products :/

MX518 - because it's the awesome-est mouse there is.
Saitek Eclipse 2 - because it glows, dammit!
Steelseries Steelpad - Bloody fantastic mousemat, my accuracy improved no end when I first got it.

G15 mk1 keyboard - why? blue keys, nice lcd screen, macro buttons, solid feel keys does the job nicely

Ms sidewinder mouse -why? adjustable weight system, solid aluminium wheel with real clicks, side buttons are perfect for me.

Steel series 4d mouse mat-why? does the job easy to clean not too intrusive marvellous peice of plastic lol :)

I have a £10 logitech flat keyboard which is great for typing. And use a raserback diamond for mouse (not found a better mouse) and I use a cyber snipa gamepad keyboard which is the best buy that ive done in years for improving my playing.

I used to have a Razer Lachesis and a Logitech G15 mk1. The ultimate gaming setup in my opinion. Unfortunately, I spilt a drink in my G15 and stupidly tried to dry it with a hair drier and melted the keys, and it doesn't work anymore. :p So I'm now using a £7 Logitech value PS2 keyboard, which is suprisingly pleasent to use.

In short, I feel that a good mouse is essential, but you can use any keyboard. The Lachesis is the best mouse on the market at the moment (in my opinion), but something like a Razer Diamondback would be fantastic as well. As for keyboard, just get one with a nice keystroke. I always game in the light, so I've realised that a backlight keyboard is surpluss to my requirements.

Logitech MX510 mouse - have been very happy with it.

I did have a Logitech G11 keyboard, but I knocked a glass of water over it and it messed up. I tried valiantly to dry it out but no joy. I wasn't actually too upset (apart from the cost) because I never really liked it - far too big and ugly. I now have one of the new Logitech media keyboards and I love it - nice size, plenty of functions and the keys have a great feel to them. It was also crazy cheap!

Oh, and I also have a Logitech Dual Action controller. Again, dirt cheap and feels fantastic.

I'm starting to love Logitech :)

MS 3.0 is basically considered one of the best gaming mice around, and of all time.

The icemat is pretty nice, but if your a low sens player your going to watch a large clothe pad instead. The steelseries QcK+ is suppose to be nice to use!

Keyboards, well I dont think they make a huge difference for gaming really but I use the Saitek II because it looks alright and was cheapish so.

Intellimouse 3.0 Steel Series Edition.

With a QcK Heavy+

No reason other than being the best of the best.
