Took a video of my boss saking me - posted it online - now they want to sue me!

I can't access the video because I am at work, so please excuse any assumptions I may make.

I have recently been involved in situation at work where an individual was making allegations about named members of staff. They publicised their plight on a website. The police ended up pursuing a charge of harrassment as there were official channels that enabled a grievance to be made, and it was considered likely that the comments made would cause the individuals a degree of alarm or distress.

To that end I would simply advise caution, especially if there are other avenues through which you can pursue your grievance. If you are naming persons then it could be construed as harrassment. Pursue action through whatever legal address you have open to you.

Small family run companies do tend to be succeptable to this, especially in cases like my last employer where the company had been built up by an individual, who wasn't the best employer but was reasonably fair, and then basically given to his son when dad retired, the son being an absolute **** on the biggest power trip i've ever seen, he really thought nothing of firing anyone, at any level because he took a disliking to them, regardless of how well they were performing or how much money they made for his company

Ive worked in a place like that. In the end i just told him where to shove it ( using examples of how he was a idiot ) in front of several members of staff, several customers and one manager of a LARGE company we had a contract with.

Turns out the manager who was there thought the same way we did about the "boss" and didnt renew the contract :p

I dont mind being told off if im being lazy or doing my job wrongly, but being victimised for actually improving things and working beyond the call of duty is something i wont stand for.

nuke from orbit etc etc.

Talk to CAB and see what they suggest for you. I suspect you will probably need a solicitor and fight then for unfair dismissal.

Unfair dismissal probably isn't an option tbh, i had my own case where the company i worked for sacked me a week before i had worked there a year, you don't get rights until you have worked for the company for a year, i went to see a solicitor and everything who said that there was nothing i could do about it, until they realised that they hadn't given me a weeks notice - which took me to the year, i soon got an out of court settlement from the company in question :D

its true that small family businesses dont always handle these things well, I say that from the point of view of someone who owns/runs one too. I personally think your best bet is to spread the video as much as poss, they cant do anything about it. I would forget unfair dismissal etc, but i prefer to draw a line under stuff and move on tbh, you have been wronged, but it could be worse and the stress of messing about with all that really isnt worth it imho.

unfortunately they can get rid of you for any number of insignificant reasons before the 12 month period, so suing for unfair dismaissla is a bit pointless.

Also, not the most sensible and mature thing to do is it? Posting the video (which she wasnt aware of) on YouTube...

Well I only posted it on facebook to begin with so some friends could see it... unfortanty my ex bosses heard about the video and went crazy... I posted it on youtube so ocuk could see it..... really I dont care if it upsets my ex bosses... it just shows how bad they treat people... these kind of things I think should be out in open not behind closed doors. They have been wondering how I got video servallance into the shop lol

Before I was sacked in same meeting she gave me a cheque for £100 (ontop of my normal commission) thanking me for selling an item costing £1350.

Didn't she say, he hadn't been employed for a year?

In that case, the employer doen't have to give a reason for a dismissal.

Rogue Traders etc...those types of programmes are vetted by BBC lawyers before they even get anywhere being broadcast.

I quite innocently didnt include the MD I mentioned in my goodbye email, for the simple reason that I didnt want to thank him for anything and I didnt want the things I said taken the wrong way (which they were by some people). Apparently he took it as a massive final insult and kept mentioning it until my boss quit as well

Before this goes any further go to the CAB or some other legal advice channel as soon as you can. You need expert advice ASAP.
Best of luck, that woman was just spouting nonsense as reasons

She was so obviously talking rubbish... her entire demeanour spoke awkwardness and duplicity,

+1 for the video, screw maturity, kudos to you for not taking ****. :)
