Looking at buying one of these, are there any other compact cameras in this price range I should also consider? (around the £200 mark)

I'll let you know what it's like once it arrives (hopefully tomorrow)

managed to get it for £187 delivered with a 2 year warranty (uk product not an import)

can't complain at that :D

Brilliant camera. Had it for about 2 weeks and i love it. HD recording in there too which is cool.

Some of my photos taken with the TZ5. Unedited as well apart from the one sunset photo. Still getting to grips with it so obviously their is more to be had from it and im an amateur at photography, so no doubt yours will turn out better :)

Ive had mine for a while and think its great, i do wish it had aperture and shutter priority and even full manual but the Ai function works very well for most scenes.

Also I have had the sydney harbour bridge pic printed at 30"x20" and even with 7mp it has come out really well. Top camera

Considering selling my FujiFilm FinePix S6500FD for a TZ5, mainly cause I never end up taking my S6500 anywhere as its too big, good idea? Also how fast is the focusing?

well it arrived today and its brilliant so far, havent had a chance to play with the pictures yet but the video is great. The focus is fast unless on high end zoom, on 10x zoom it's considerably slower, especially if you are wobbly lol, but I guess that's to be expected!

I've got a TZ4 + 4GB card in the mail.

I really compared loads of cameras online and went down to shops and tried some out and I am convinced these Panasonics are the best deals out there followed by the Canon Ixus range, Pentax Optios a close third.

The rest are all flawed by either overpricing or lacking something obvious in their price range when compared to the three I've mentioned.

What i like about the TZ5 is that it's so user friendly. For a novice like me the Intelligent Auto mode is perfect. It's great at working out what type of shot you're trying to take and adjusts the camera accordingly. From all the reviews i trawled through for the money (in it's price range) this is the best all round compact on the market in my opinion.
The 30fps 720p HD movie capability, 28mm Wide Angle and 10x Optical Zoom and 3-inch 460,000-dot super high resolution screen are the icing on the cake.

I took my son out yesterday and picked my DSLR up to take with me but decided i just couldn't be bothered to lug it around all day but the TZ5 was perfect just to keep in a pocket.

I've just been playing with the 16:9 widescreen setting and the pictures are great, it goes down to 7.5mpx max in that mode, rather than the 9 mpx max, but that's more than enough for fantastic photos, the leica lense is brilliant

Hi

I have been mulling over the purchase of one of the Lumix range. It is a toss up between the TZ 5 and the FX500. Anyone had a go with the FX500 yet?

I take it this is the item on fleebay?

If so that's the one i went for although mine was £189.99 with the 4GB card and free delivery. I only noticed after clicking buy that the exact same deal was on there for £179.99 from the same seller (shop on the site).

How are you finding it? Edit for an extra £20 I can get it with :

1. New *4GB* SD Memory Card
2. *Extra* High Capacity Li-ion Battery
3. 5-piece Deluxe Lens Cleaning Kit
4. SD/MMC Card Reader
5. Camera Case
6. Mini Tripod
