I haven't done this with this camera but I know with other camera's I used, when the camera is connected to the computer via usb cable, you will see in 'My Computer' a new removable disk. This disk is your memory card in your camera so just make sure the card is empty and just copy the bin file to the removable disk in my computer.

A friend ended up giving me a USB > SD reader. I formatted the SD card in the camera, copied the TZ5_a.bin file into the root (so alongside folders DCIM and MISC).

I then loaded SD card back into camera, changed to view mode, turned on and I didn't get any message regarding update? All I see is the photos already on the card and if I remove all of them all I see is the 'No picture to display' message? I have tried a few times but without any luck

Currently on 1.1 and a bit confused. Any help appreciated!

You need some photos on the card and a full battery for the upgrade to start.


Anyone running V1.1 with this cam and have bad focus on their pictures? I got a TZ5 last week and I am not impressed at all with the picture quality. Most are coming out blurred.

for £217 delivered. They seemed to have come down in price now. Ordered mine yesterday and got it delivered today. Very impressed with it.

Did the firmware upgrade and i can confirm that it works by just copying the file to the SD card in the camera using the usb cable.

Can I do the firmware upgrade without a using seperate card reader? So copying the file to the memory card whilst it is in the camera?
If not I guess I'll have to go and buy a reader...

I bought the extra card reader, but only after I realised the camera(5weeks old) already had 1.2 firmware installed!

So I am going to go ahead and get the TZ5 but what accessories should I be buying? I think it seems to be

a) Flash Card
b) Replacement Battery
c) Camera Case

Does this sound about right and does anyone have any recommendations?
