Contact lens wearers and glasses?

Apparently you don't get your eye frazzled if you move, the laser stops.

Still not sure I would take the risk though... :/ but that is my biggest fear of the whole op.

Im just trying contacts right now, had them for 3 days. Got 5 sets of dailies until my monthly pair come into the store in my prescription.

They are fine for long distance, but I do find it hard to read the computer screen, and as has been said its a weird effect and harder to focus. I really hope that a different lens wont have that effect.

Also, Im only wearing one permanently. My left eye is only -0.25 and contacts start at -0.5 so theres no point!

I could see better with contacts than glasses, even with a slight astigmatism, but it did depend on the contact lenses and I was a seasoned contact lens wearer. I used to have constant problems with Specsavers own brand lenses with eye irritation, blurring and dryness but no problems with Precision UV for example. Try some different brands.

Can anyone who has had laser eye surgery report about the procedure they went through?

I've seen those adverts "NO INJECTIONS " etc etc, but I have heard that they actually slice around your iris and temporarily remove it which sounds pretty harsh.
They use anaesthetic drops. They cut a thin flap and peel it out the way for the procedure. Sounds harsh and on paper it's quite invasive if you think about it, but in reality you can't feel it and there's little discomfort afterwards. I didn't need any painkillers after the anaesthetic wore off.

wear contacts and glasses like wearing my contacts but after 8 hours in a dusty work place they are fooked :(

Contact lenses by far, wouldn't want to wear specs ever again tbh.

I wear my contacts all day every day, and have been doing for the past 10 years. They sometimes dry out a bit during summer (I have hayfever which doesn't help) but I just use some contact lense friendly re-wetting eye drops if that happens.

I wear my lenses from about 15 mins after I wake up to when I go to bed, and they are fine. In fact I don't even own a pair of glasses anymore, should get some really for a backup but I never get round to it.

At times I've worn lenses constantly for nearly 48 hours (I wear dailies) just changing for a fresh pair once they start to dry out (normally after about 24 hours). I did this a fair few times while I was out in the desert last winter, and many times in the past with no ill effects whatsoever. Just using the re-wetting eye drops and changing the lenses regularly is fine.

I would say it's worth only wearing them for 8 hours or so when you first start wearing them. But over time as you get used to them you'll find you can wear them for longer periods without discomfort.

It can be a faff getting them in and out to start with, but after some practice you can put contacts in and take them out in mere seconds.

Would love to have laser eye surgery though, but unfortunatly it's not an option for the forseeable future.

my contacts dry quite badly after 8hrs in a seriously well air conditioned lab at work.

Looking to see if i can find some better ones im currently using specsavers standard I think is there a more comfortable pair for a few ££?

just get drops tbh.

The machine tracks your eye movement. If you move out of its range it simply stops, nothing to worry about.

The surgeon has a piece of apparatus that cuts the flap and it does it as quick as you can click your fingers. The actual laser procedure takes about 8-10 seconds and you just sit there watching the flashing light so you know where to look.

It's totally paintless, less pain than brushing your teeth or something.

Brushing your teeth is less unpleasant though and I don't remember being so nervous :D

I wear glasses, contacts just make my eyes irritated and I always felt like there was something in my eyes.
I do see better with my glasses and they make me look smart! :p

You sure they weren't in backwards?

When I went for my first contact consultation with Specsavers (urgh), they misadvised that it doesn't matter which way the contacts are when you put them in.

As a result, I found them incredibly irritating, and decided against contacts.

2 months later, Visionexpress offered me a free trial, and I told them I found them irritating, and they asked if I checked that they were the right way around. They then showed me how to check, and when I tested again, after the initial few minutes of settling in, they were fine.

I can't manage more than 12 hours before they get too dry and blurry though.

I use Focus Dailies.

specs pretty much the same as contacts for me really, after 2 mins wearing the contacts i cant feel them anymore, first few wears felt like i had something in my eye, if you use them regularly then you soon cant feel anything.

much prefer contacts, going to get them as full time replacement soon

I wear contacts for scuba diving, but i have proper issues putting them in. I have a massive phobia of touching my eyes so my girlfriend literally has to pry my eye open and push the lens in for me. It's really lame, but so out of my control :( luckily i dont have to do it too often.

I wear glasses permanently otherwise.

I do notice that i cant see as well with contacts, even though they are identical prescription to my glasses, but this is because i rub my eyes raw whenever i get them put in :/

Do you find you see better with lenses or better with glasses.

I tried some contacts today and they were comfortable enough, but i found even after 1/2 hours wear i could'nt see as well as i do with my glasses on.

The optician is gonna try a different (not higher) presciption and see how that goes.

I get sharper vision with my glasses, contacts seem to be a bit fuzzier for me.

Contacts are sharper for me, I would have thought it would be that way for everyone as they are right on the eye.

Isn't that extremely dangerous? My optician heavily advised against this, citing long term eye damage by keeping them in all day long, as you limit the oxygen the eye gets.
