Received an ISP Letter of Abuse

I personally thought it was a brilliant defence - I buy apples, why should I not get oranges for free?

The other thing about software is that there are so many great free alternatives if you just search around a little, they might not be quite as fully featured or easy to use but suck it up and spend a little time learning to get great results if you can't afford to buy the original.

If I buy the fuel, can I have a Bentley for free?

its a bit unfair to single him out when the whole thread is essentially about warez ,albeit getting caught

besides he hasnt specifically mentioned that downloading warez was his intention

Er he coughed to downloading a copy of a game and then went on to ask how he could continue to do it but limit the chance of getting caught!

OOPS just realised this could be perceived as a warez thread which wasnt intentional.

I think Ill ignore the email for now and follow the straight and narrow by not downloading anymore.

Thought id wake the proverbial righteous monster (see post above yours)

Im kidding obviously :)

Not a righteous monster, i saw your arguement as flawed and juvenile, and had a difference of opinion. Nor do i believe you're joking, you're quite clearly a muppet (elevated from numpty!) for clearly asking questions on how to obtain warez and avoid detection when it's against forum rules, anyone with some sense would take the hint and do some research on the QT.

Not to mention his signature also breaks the rules.

The isp has no legal power. tese big media companies are trying to force isps to be their police for free. dont allow it.

simply ignore, as sais they have no legal power unless the people you stole it from want to make an example out of you.

Has punctuation and capitalisation taken a holiday today?

So...they have no legal power...unless of course they want to do something...in which case they have legal power? O RLY?

Pipex's email system is a joke tbh

its regularly spammed with invalid emails from all over the shop

im not with them anymore and havent been for 2 years yet they send me bills that belong to other people, warnings for other people, cut off notices for other people. all to there email address.

I would totally disregard this email if they wanted to contact you im pretty sure they would use there own email address ie : [email protected] or whatever your own isps name is not some random hotmail address.

let em cancel your line tbh. There a pants isp anyway.

Well, if it's a private torrent tracker he registered with using that email address, and the torrent hashes a key using it thing which the tracker uses to make sure only one person is getting torrents using his account, it could have sniffed the address that way, or contacted the torrent site and obtained it using his IP @ a certain time (which is quite worrying).

Either way he's admitted he'll never do it again and if he does only him, Pipex and "bubba" his future cellmate, will know.

they did send me the email using a pipex email account,

Spec me an ISP?

im on a 20:1 contention ratio, 16mbit dsl2 (although I only get an effective 6mbit), no download cap for £19.99 a month

He's using the wrong torrent sites if they were willing to give up details of his activities to his ISP!
