Hand tattoos when working in IT

some companies are pretty draconian about this stuff, i have to wear a shirt and tie even though im not client facing and was told my hair was too short even tho it looks scruffy when its long

Entirely dependant on who you are working for.

If it is public sector, they can't get rid of you if you get public ink.

However, if you happen to have idiots as superiors, expect nepotism.

Same here. Logic is because you never know if the client will be around in the building somewhere.

Too short? How can too short ever be a problem?

Some people look like thugs when they have a skinhead. A lot of IT companies don't like this. Silly but that's how things are with many of them.

I got a 3 on top and a 1 on the side, aparrently it made me look like a thug but it grows quick enough and i'm tight so if i have it done really short i can save £10 a month on haircuts :p

I'm sure it totally depends on the company.

There is a guy with a bright orange mohawk in my company's IT department.

If you want people to assume you're a low life gangster who enjoys hitting old ladys for a hobby, get tats.

He speaks the truth - the most hideous looking things ever in my opinion. Don't have an ounce of a clue why people would want to cover themselves with those things.

Unless you are customer facing I don't think appearance makes too much odds.
