Personal Registraion=Yay or Gay?

So friends know its you? It looks good, etc. Some people tattoo their names on themselves which can cost over £100 easily

for example if your driving through somewhere and you spot a car look at number plate it would be far easier to know its your friend if it said BEN 1 than if it said SC58 RTL

Or so you know what cousin it is?

A personalised plate is one that refers to something personal about the owner, i.e. their name, profession, sexual orientation etc.

A plate with a selection of random numbers and letters is not personalised.

There is a distinct difference and if you cannot understand that there is little point in discussing this any further. Isn't that right, Fox? ;)

valid point.

so did you pay for your random plate after you got the car? or did you just give a preference to the dealer when you ordered your car?

You must be about the only person in the world with a non personalised personalised plate then.

But, as we can see, Psycho Sonny has come out in support of the personal plate. As a result I have no choice but to change my mind and side unquestionably with Scuzi on this issue from this point onwards.

I got it from the dealer. They had a selection of plates available and I was given the choice of about 40-50 standard new plates or for £100 I could get one with fewer numbers. The ones with fewer numbers looked better and £100 isn't realy a lot considering I've probably spent double than that on car cleaning products.

I don't have a personalised plate.

I think that a personalised number plater indicates that in all likelihood the driver does not in actual fact own the property in which he dwells. He/She may also may also partake in homosexual activities.

Private plates ftl.

Neither, on that basis, is £250.

Out of interest, what should Jez have chosen as his plate? J6 and three completely random letters?

I don't know, whatever the hell he wants to choose. I perceive there to be only disadvantages to having your initials on a plate compared to having random letters. I cannot see any advantage to being able to be identified by people who otherwise wouldn't be able to identify you.

I couldn't care if he had his full name and title on the numberplate, I'm not going to lose any sleep over it. I just don't understand why you would have your initials on there when the potential disadvantages outweigh the advantages. Some people also aspire to have their name on a plate and buy a private plate solely to have their name on there. I don't understand this either.

I don't think I want to understand any more, it's not worth the hassle of discussing :p

WHY!?!?

Oh no, that's terrible. There's a newish golf (blacked out windows, otherwise looking like some sort of standard 1.6) driving around in Brum with '10 inch' or very similar. What a ****.

OK - I'm going to be honest, I've just bought "vanity/private/personal plates" for my 2006 vRS.
Initially a way of hiding the true age of the vehicle.
It is 2 years old now, a good chance we'll keep it for at least 3 years, maybe 4.
However with this plate on then it's true age is kind of hidden as it is obviously not a "p plate".
The choosen plate?

P33 VRS

The last three letters are obvious (and I see it no different to the BMW, PUG, TVR, CLK kind of plates).
First initial of my name (Paul) and the numbers, we wanted 1 or 2.
1 number was going to be silly money, so 2 numbers just happens to be my age at my next birthday, so the wife paid a chunk of the fee as an early birthday present.

Nothing special, but I think it looks nice on the car.

The amount of **51 NGH plates I have seen on my travels is crazy...

Among the more interesting I have seen are (IIRC - can't guarantee 100% accuracy)

MEA 7Y
LM 0
GO08 BYE (on a bimmer M3 or M5 I think up the M1)

Why would anyone be able to identify you?

I saw a car the other day with the plate V5 CHD.

I've no idea who was driving it. I'm non the wiser than had it been DK55 BGF.
