Publisher EA today confirmed that EA Maxis' ambitious life simulator Spore has gone gold and is now in the manufacturing process. The PC and Mac release is slated to hit North American retailers on September 7, with a slightly less ambitious Nintendo DS version, titled Spore Creatures, arriving the same day. The iPhone version, dubbed Spore Origins, arrives September 4.

Fantastic.

I'm actually excited about this since E3. I had just assumed it would be fives minutes of fun, five years of sitting on the shelf.

I'm utterly unexcited by this, what exactly is the buzz about? Then again I haven't followed this since it was annouced so can someone fill me on why I should be rushing to the shops to buy this?

Same for me really. Call me shallow but if a game is too open-ended with no real goals I find it difficult to enjoy.

Can you still make penis shaped creatures in the full version :D, like on all those vids that ''broke'' the youtube rules while the game's not rated high at al ( rated E iirc ?) ?

If it was...realistic...and less cartoony, I might be more interested.

Yes.

I expected a :

''Flying game (when you're a spore), Creature generator, Sims, Sim city, Rise of nations, Civilization, Birth of the federation/galactic civs2/space empires 5' 'Game in one when I first heard it.
But it's more like fantasy land lol.

But I'll still give it a shot.

I was excited till i tried the creature editor, there wasn't any of the amazing animation they promised :(

Also it seemed pretty limited.

i bet EA mess it up, they've already pulled out a fair few features

Aye I hope they havnt dumbed it down too much, Although the creature creator wasnt as good as i was hoping it to be there was still a lot of customization.
Fingers crossed the full game is as good as it was promised to be and EA havnt totally flaffed it up

It looks kind of interesting, but after reading several previews I'm struggling to see the actual game here. Seems more like an experimental playground to me. I'll wait to read the reviews ... Nice to see an original idea for once though.

Meh, another cash cow with no appealing features, no multiplayer/being able to attack other peoples villages, only download and fight the AI controlled versions.

Spore: Lamps & Tables!!!

I will give this a go, but also agree its been kiddie-fied. I thought it looked rgeat when they first started showing it off with the original tidepool phase, then they made it a cartoon and added stuipd bulging eyes, I mean whats that all about!?

*edit - Also a small note. Many people dont seam to realise the game will end up with creatures noithing like made in the creature creator, as people will be making their creatures stronger, faster, more efficient. Not tall and stuipd looking, or funny shaped.
