Michael Johnson's raction to Bolt... LEGEND LOL
http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/olympics/athletics/7565608.stm
Im sorry but he really should have gone for it
great run - but he doesnt have a god given right to be in the same shape again in 4/8 years time
Yeah fine people get sponser money for beating World Records - but at the Olympics is a one or two chance thing (in the final) , MJ's reaction was great though
I guess he could be saving himself for the 4*100 or the 200m, but would it have made that much difference(in the other races) if he had gone for it completely for the whole 100m , Im not sure
By the way, did anyone see the blonde guy in the coxless fours say "I love you" whilst hugging the guy behind. Will try and fnd a video!

Rowing always cracks me up at the end; compared to most events the competitors always look like they're dying they're so tired.
Is this Olympics better than the last few or is it just me?
He explains after the race, all he was running for was to win the gold medal. When he saw no one even near him there was no reason for him to race any harder. He had no clue he had broken the world record till a whiles later, he didnt even appear bothered that much, because he was just going for the win.
Sorry there is no athlete in the world who doesnt want to be immortalised with a W/O Record - the medal in one sense only lasts four years, but a record can last a lot longer
I dont buy that at all
A gold medal lasts forever, a record can be broken tomorrow![]()
Thats how i view it also.
How can a gold last four years? You win the race, you get gold, end of? That gold stays with you forever.
Only until the next Olympic final - and then he was the previous Olympic Champion - which the public quickly forget
Rubbish, i bet if most people were asked for the name of an british olympic gold medal winning runner they'd say Christie.
FrankJH vs The World
*gets popcorn*

Maybe they do, but who honestly would go out there and say "I'm gonna break the world record today". I dont think most athletes are arrogant and good enough to believe that they could. Better to be immortalized winning and defeating all others at that time, than try and fail for some probable, impossibile mountain, that someone else will scale a bit later on.
I never suggested that anyone would - all I suggested is that most athletes no matter what would drive for the line completely giving it their all, as they might never get there again (rather than gambling on further paydays by breaking your own wr over and over again)
Im used to it - seems like my opinion doesnt count for anything anywhere
-edit thought "gold medal winner" was the question - laughs - as we have probably only had two or three winning runners in the Olympics in the last 20 years or so (ooohh plus a quartet I think)
Even then depending on the age of whom you were asking, I would still reckon they would say Coe (as he is in the news seemingly daily due to 2012) or Ovett more often than Christie
