Over 20 pounds for FF7 are people insane.

I've never seen it before.

Its obviously a recent edition as it has the same sephiroth and cloud designs that are present in FF:AC

And judging by the logo in the bottom corner it was a limited edition never released here anyway
 
The missus has got em all, being the big JRPG geek she is. She had to re-buy them all after a burglary a couple of years ago, and they weren't cheap then.
 
Can someone please explain to me, in actual proper terms (ie not 'coz its awesum'), why so many people are so gay for this game.

Yes, I bought it on PS1 when it came out, played it through completely (killed all the Weapons, got the Gold Chocobo, all that stuff), and enjoyed it, it was a good game.

But why, over 10 years later, are people still foaming and dribbling at the mere mention of it's name? The plot was pretty standard JRPG guff. The characters were fairly good and the death of Aeris was well handled, but what else? Sephiroth looked cool and was 'awesome' but didnt really have any personality or depth, standard bad-guy. Cloud was just a generic stroppy teenager JRPG lead character, other FF games have had much more interesting leads.

Chrono Trigger/Cross, FF6, FF9 and Vagrant Story were all better IMO.

Personally for me the reason I loved it so much is the fact it was literally the first rpg I had ever played, you always remember your first time ;)

In contrast I played ff6 after ff7 and got bored of it after a few hours play never played chrono games and I played through vagrant story more times than I can remember trying to make a full suit of damascus dread armor (I was missing the 2 gauntlets I think)

It all boils down to different strokes for different blokes.

Well, I'm not sure the plot was pretty standard stuff, the story is really long and yet it sustains your interest throughout, with many things happening and which scales well up to its conclusions. Its usage of varied gameplay elements always made you feel part of it. The music and atmosphere was perfect. It was fun and first, and it had a simplicity to its elements which I think made it better.. The subsequent Final Fantasies appear to have got more convaluted, and serious. Lastly I think its unrealness made it more real, its cartoony blocky character compared to other RPGs meant you had little expectations about the character behaviour, you had to push your imagination onto them, unlike more real characters where no imagination is required, and you expect them to behave and act certain ways.
 
For me it's just the overall ambience of FF7. The first few hours are very dark. The striking music (reactor music anyone?), and just how well Midgar is done. The slums are amazing, contrasting dinge with neon.

Then you realise you have a whole world map to explore, many different style towns and areas, each with it's unique style / music / story.

The actual main plot is almost irrelevant for me now, I just enjoy the travelling checking everything out. It's more like an interactive movie / story, you can sit back and play. I guess if that doesn't appeal to you, you won't like it :)
 
Am glad this game is selling well still as I have a copy on ps1 of FF7 (open but immaculate!) that I'll stick on the bay when I eventually get round to it.

Was a great game though. The story was great and it was a thoroughly enjoyeable experience - reminds me of the ps1, playing classics such as Resident Evil 2 etc :)

Same story with me, borrowed it from my mate about 7 or 8 years ago and forgot about it till I found it not long ago. On the third disc now, amazing game.
